Set during a “Vampire Weekend,” a Renaissance Faire-like celebration of the town’s dubious history, Nova takes down two actual vampires after coming into her powers. By the episode’s end, the formerly friendless Nova has a new Scooby Gang flanking her. The action then cuts to New York City for a brief scene with Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy, who is working in a corporate office building under the name "Anne." The script drops hints about what’s to come: Her dad, a photojournalist, is overly protective, and has moved them around a lot after Nova was kidnapped as a young child. And all the vampires that Buffy buried in the show’s 2003 series finale, when the Hellmouth collapsed in on itself, taking Sunnydale down with it, have been awakened. @Variety Her name being “Nova” should have been scrapped on the page. The name “Buffy” served as an unexpectedly cute headline of innocence and humor above the dark horror and violence of vampire slaying, it served a purpose. Reading “Nova” just sounds like cringe inducing fan fiction.

@buffys No matter what the pilot was like, I do not believe any person should be an executive of a show they appear to have disdain for, and to be proud to have never seen the original series is crazy. Seems like the whole endeavor was a waste of everyone’s time and money.

oh my god… sarah michelle gellar just revealed it was ONE hulu executive who cancelled the revival series because he wasn’t a fan of the original show and never seen it…. what the fuck.

I think some aspects of the Buffy pilot script were interesting. Some of it not as much. Learning it came down to a single executive being able to scrap it, and that he was proud to have never even seen the original series, that pisses me off more.

finished this pilot is horrible & yes, Buffy does only appear at the very end Its difficult to tell who Novas friends are, besides Hugo. theres a weird counselor who is interested to know if Nova was sexually abused this reeks of "This is the First Draft"

@softbutmadd An interesting plot from the continuation comics was that there were many women who were unhappy that the slayer power/dreams were forced onto them and didn’t want it and they teamed up to take Buffy down out of resentment

honestly one singular slayer not wanting her powers doesn’t even make sense because at the end of season 7 they activated all the slayers worldwide so i’m struggling to find why we should care about some slayer but not the others etc

I wonder if, among other things, Hulu got cold feet about calling a show Buffy the Vampire Slayer when Buffy only appears in the last 30 seconds of the pilot.

@ViewerAnon I wish we could see the pilot or read a more detailed synopsis I’m just curious about it all and why it didn’t work.

@2doubledeath2 @DanielRPK Previous and future slayers is a great direction just leave Buffy to exist perfectly as it is and expand it out it’s literally in the shows lore. Crazy that this isn’t the plan to begin with.
