I very much dug READY OR NOT 2. Not quite as sharp as the first but Samara Weaving’s just an insanely good actress and the supporting cast is all game. Get the biggest bucket of popcorn available, slather it in butter, and enjoy. You’ll die 10 years earlier but that’s OK.

The Oscars were this week and I've seen a lot of people arguing about Dune, Avengers, Spider-Man, etc., and I think many would enjoy geek life more if they stopped looking at movies as things that are fighting each other where one must be deemed the ultimate winner.

@DarthHenshaw It's not a new thing at all - and I definitely went through a phase where I indulged fanboy tribalism - but social media just makes it EVERYWHERE.

@ViewerAnon I remember back in the day Star Wars fans fighting Lord of the Rings fans about which films were gonna be better. Well, Star Wars fans mostly.

Wonderful and weird side effect of finishing Resident Evil Requiem: it’s helped my video game arachnophobia?? Just charged through a spider area in another game thinking “These aren’t nearly as bad as that Raccoon City fucker.”

@bradmiska I am so sorry!! My wonderful voice actress girlfriend sat with me and to get me through it did a funny cartoon voice for the spider as he kept saying “I just want to hang out! Let’s be friends!”

Death Stranding 2 was my favorite game last year and it's now out on PC. If you enjoy even the tiniest ounce of Hideo Kojima craziness you should play it.

We finally have confirmation Sonic the Hedgehog and The Last of Us take place in the same universe.

@levicuriosities They can’t. They’ve tried but it’s too expensive to even release the VHS workprint (which never shot the ending anyway) as a bonus feature, let alone restore it. All the actors who don’t appear in the final cut would need to be paid, the music licensed, etc

@screamlivez4eva I don’t know, I think 3’s opening falls flat precisely because it’s the opening. The moment you see Cotton you know he’s dead so it doesn’t feel as impactful as it could.

The last time we had an opening scene that involved characters we actually cared about was Scream 3. Imagine Scream 8 with an opening scene that included either -Sidney -Chad/Mindy -Tatum -Gale 😱

@Cade_Onder I think (and this is just speculation, I know nothing about the role) it could be a role intended to return in Batman Part III and actors on this level are hesitant about committing to multiple films.

what the hell is going on with this role in The Batman Part 2 that is making everyone pass on it?

@wrexweed I don’t think it’s artificial - I think it’s a combination of creatives arguing in the media and the trades being, essentially, very high-level blogs run by people who grew up with Buffy, so they’d have a lot of interest in writing about this.

@ViewerAnon Is it just me or does the mid-level media response to this feel a little artificial? I have a lot of experience with digital engagement firms and this is hitting quite a few notes.

Did Variety just read the 2024 New Sunnydale draft on Scribd and write an article about it? Because when they filmed the thing Nova’s name was changed to Rowen…

@TheRochaSays Also would be strange to me, if SMG was looking for an escape valve, to bring in the Zuckermans to write/showrun, as they have a history of running successful shows that get multiple seasons.

@TheRochaSays I don’t doubt a lot of this but why would Sarah sign onto a show she doesn’t want to do and pick a creative partner who’s essentially a patsy to take the fall for it falling apart? Why not just not make the show and cut out the middle man?

Ok. FUCK THIS. Sarah Michelle Gellar's people and maybe even HULU are trying to throw Chloe Zhao under the bus over Buffy. Nope. Not letting this happen to an INCREDIBLY TALENTED woman of color. I was gonna stay quiet with the other stuff I'd heard, but nah. Let's do this. Since my post 48 hours ago, I've had sources tell me that: - Gellar was the issue from the beginning - this was just an "IP grab" to stop that SLAYERS project from proceeding (which my sources had heard from a person involved with the original series) - Gellar wasn't terribly interested in rebooting the series (which was why her role was very limited, but was going to be more than one line) - Gellar had intentionally courted a creative who had a mixed history as a showrunner, but was a known“fan,” so that it would easily fall on her as the reason for the series’ failure. - that there was "a lot of love bombing from SMG to Chloe Zhao" before this latest excuse was put out there blaming Zhao and throwing her under the bus - Gellar constantly shouted down or cut off execs and production people who were trying to fix the issues with the show - One even said that what Gellar wanted to make changes to the Buffy character and the established canon of the series that would "piss off 90% of the fanbase" And now it just came out from @THR that Gellar doesn't want you reading the script that is being leaked. No surprise. It would show all the mistakes she approved of that were going to wreck the show and the canon. Btw these are sources I trust and who have given me correct info in the past. Some of y'all might have to put down your rose colored fan glasses and put on some clear ones.

@TommyLaxTenny I don’t think that would make an impact here. Studios typically love money; since Disney owns Buffy and Hulu, they’d still profit heavily if it went somewhere else. To me this just indicates Hulu is serious about rebooting Buffy and doesn’t want to sell it off for a quick buck.

Most interesting part of the Variety/Buffy article is mention of other outlets reaching out to potentially pick up New Sunnydale but Disney/Hulu not being interested.

You could argue Zhao “should have done so,” but this was her first TV directing gig, it’s not surprising if she shot it like a feature. And it’s also dumb to hire an Oscar-winning director for your pilot and expect her to be anonymous in her shots and staging.

Great post which I think explains the Zhao burial in the press. Coverage is what allows execs to basically screw with the edit; if she shot a particular way without options for them, it limited how much they could rework scenes.
