What does it mean to make art with a network? Not on it. Not about it. With it. An essay for @ethereum. I was invited to write a guest piece, this essay reflects on network as a medium, @CryptoPunks and the art practice of @larvalabs, and the future of institutions like @nodefnd stewarding art that will outlive museums. It's been an honor to shepherd CryptoPunks into their next chapter. Punks forever. 💅

About five years ago, @poolside played a @brtmoments art opening, thank you @jeffdavis for requesting him. Jeffrey (aka Poolside and also my partner of 10 yrs) remembers walking into that gallery and thinking, very clearly….this is Natalie’s scene. Nerds, art, joy, and a new type of community. At the time, I was still @Google - building experimental new-media programs and working on strange collaborations with musicians and artists…But my curiousity was peeked, and many opportunities and convos later (plus a bit of luck) I found myself stepping into a role @cryptopunks one year later. And you know the rest of that story, right? Around this time two years ago, Jeff dj’d a party for Punks at our home: the Disco Cabin. And then, one year ago just around this time, that home burned in the LA Fires. And now, one year after that - we’re find ourselves at new chapter. CryptoPunks have found a new home @nodefnd, and I’ll be there and so will I and will Jeff (both of them in fact). Funny how life weaves - untangling and tangling, the same threads, stretched across time, somehow still intact. And yes Jeffrey was right all along: this is my scene.

My mom passed away Saturday morning after a long battle with MS/MSA. I had been going to all her doctor’s visits and trying to co-manage her healthcare for years. She didn’t have a clear diagnosis up until the very end. I tried really hard to help her, and find her help, to try to do something. But there’s no real treatment or cure for what she had. And diagnosis is even difficult. It’s hard not to feel like I failed to protect her or help her. But I know we did everything we could. I’m grateful she went peacefully in her sleep.

i was hacked/scammed. the scammers took all btc (most my savings), eth and tezos from my ledger wallets (my fault for writing the seed phrase in what seemed to be a super legit, double-checked website). i am stupidly, you are not. not to worry. i will be off for a long while. never entertain a call from coinbase nor trust an email even if the email address seems legit (it will be legit, just cloned). this happened at 1am, of course i was not thinking properly, don’t answer the phone as 1am. : )

What started as a proof of concept for @artblocks_io and the blockchain's ability to generate entropy evolved into something much bigger than I could have ever dreamed of. Squiggles embody my soul as my signature as an artist and a technologist, and I'm grateful to each and every one of you that has ever explored, enjoyed, connected with and even criticized my work as you have all played a role in shaping who I am as an artist. I appreciate every single one of the (as of the time of this post) 2,861 Squiggle collectors that continue to participate on this journey with me.
