Putting the current leader’s name and image on everything is an authoritarian move, designed to make them seem more present, more powerful, more invincible than they are. It is a betrayal of American democracy, where power belongs to the people. nytimes.com/interactive/20…

@LarryBoorstein @BarbMcQuade Very true. Even authoritarians have some shame. Plastering your name every where is just cringe.

@BarbMcQuade Vladimir Putin's signature and image is not on Russian currency. Xi Jinping's are not on Chinese currency. The Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei's are not on Iranian currency. But those leaders are not narcissistic authoritarians like Donald Trump.

@BarbMcQuade It is a disgrace. What happened to America? This does not even happen in third word countries. The deluded MAGA seems to like it.

@Robert_E_Kelly From the speech that he delivered in Miami I don't think he is capable to even understand all of that. With politically correct statements like "kiss my ass" can you expect anything better from him?

This How long do we stay? What do we do when the entire Iranian military descends on these enclaves? Do we push deeper into Iran to suppress those attacks? Doesn’t Iran just close the strait again when we leave? Why isn’t POTUS speaking to the country to explain all this?
Kelly Grieco@ka_grieco

Seizing territory isn't the hard part. Holding it is. In Strait, the U.S. doesn't have air superiority at lower altitudes, and conducting ground ops without it is very costly (see Ukr). "Secure uranium stockpiles" also assumes we know where they all are and can reach them.

@woly9010 @aimk27 If they are not making plans already they are living in fools paradise. They have to be smarter than this. America will not stick around for long. If America treats NATO, Europe this badly what hope does the Arabs have. Americans are basically Europeans and have a lot in common.

@plebhere @aimk27 It’s understandable that the Us government would seek to keep them weakened and it’s been beneficial for them in financial terms but the reality remains that the benefits would be outweighed eventually so the opportunity to change the equation should be considered legitimately

We truly owe so much to Trump. This man has done more to dismantle Western client states in MENA than 50 years of progressive foreign policy. And is now publically humiliating MBS & delegitimizing the gulf oil monarchies. Our decolonial hero. I can’t help that I love him & wish we could give him a third term

“He didn’t think he would be kissing my ass, he really didn’t…and now he has to be nice to me….he better be nice to me, he’s gotta be..” - Trump about MBS Trump lays out the actual relationship between USA and the Arab countries in the region.

@woly9010 @aimk27 It is a double edged sword. If they have a strong military it be will be prone to coup's and take overs. So they have kept the military deliberately weak I guess and outsourced it to the untrustworthy Americans who protect Israel instead and drag these guys into it.

@aimk27 @plebhere You have a near unlimited supply of energy and money that could be spend a pittance on defence between your shared interests and have complete control over energy supply flowing from Western Asia despite your size your capabilities far outweighs the box you force yourself into 🫡

@aimk27 A simple question. Do you make strong relationship or be friends with somebody who treats you with disdain, looks down upon your cultural, socio-political system? If the answer is Yes then happily continue for the sake of being wealthy/prosperous.

That’s your opinion. Not all GCC states joined the Abraham Accords, and they are not popular at the societal level btw. Again, take it from a realist point of view, the GCC is doing what they can to protect their people, provide them with good quality of life, and defend their territories. That includes a strong relationship (political, military, economic) with the US. Then be it. You can have your opinions and throw all the adjectives you want, you’re not a GCC citizen; nor are you well-versed in their cultural, socio-political systems or societies.

@aimk27 Don't put eggs in a single basket. Treat the west for what it is and await the eventual backstabbing at some point. Stronger ties with countries like China or India. Turkey base was a smart move or else I am not sure what Qatar's fate would have been.

@plebhere I agree my friend, I’m not disputing this. What does the GCC do? Share the same fate as Iraq and Yemen? What’s the best thing for the benefit of citizens, ally with the West. In realism, the world is a jungle, and we are small nations. What can we do?????

@aimk27 When you hitch your ride with the West this is what you get. We can decide who is stupid later. The relationship between GCC and US includes Israel too if you are deluded enough to not know that. Soon the others will be arm twisted to join the Abraham accords.

Are you stupid? When did I say we had commonalities with the West? You brought this point up and I refuted. Yes, we are located in West Asia. I do not support the destruction of Gaza, and Israel is a genocidal terrorist state. I am making a point about the GCC and US. Not Israel, fuck Israel. Not mutually exclusive arguments my friend.

@aimk27 Yes I will tell you for what it is. The West is full of idiots hooked up on consumerism making profits for the corporations. The governments only want tax slaves so that they can keep spending and still run deficit and then borrow even more.

@aimk27 If honking and a poor labourer comes to you is drive thru for you. Then so be it. I just said that to make you aware that I know what goes on there. The things there are not compatible with the values of the west and they would be shocked to know it.

Of course, the same workers who voluntarily moved to the Gulf, who for generations send remittances back home that not only feed their families as a source of livelihood (something their corrupt and background countries did not provide them) but also boosts their local economies. By ground situation, I meant geopolitical and historical realities. But of course I see through your bias and see the point you’re making and will reply based with reason and fact. Yes, an employee at a sandwich a shop will most likely hand the sandwich to a customer outside the shop. That’s how drive throughs work. Amazing stuff.

@aimk27 Well I guess then Trump must know of your culture well when he came there. That is why he saying that his ass should be licked. Grow a spine man. Call out something for what it is. I am sure you must be educated in the west that is why you have so much admiration for them.

Ottoman currency, Qatar-Dubai Riyal, your point? Rupee??? You mean British-controlled colonial territory India? Yes. We know our culture, this was clear in the World Cup opening ceremony and clear when Trump visited 2025. Iran “helped” only when it was in their geopolitical interest to do so, only to spite the other GCC countries. In international relations there are no friends, there are state interests and strategics. The Mullah Shia regime in Iran has no affection for Sunnah or Arabs; as proven in Syria. You’re boring and uneducated.

@aimk27 Wasn't Indian rupee used there in Qatar before riyals was pegged to the dollar? Before saying that you are proud of alliance with the west make sure you know what their culture is and what is yours. Know their values. Didn't Iran help you guys out with food and supplies in 2017.

Who is they? The Illuminati? The EU? Britain? France? Who are you referring you? I was specific and said US. “Money bags” man this is really old talking point, ok oil and money, and? Then what? Are GCC citizens starving? Is there universal healthcare in decline? Is there world class education disappearing? Is the quality of life affected? It’s easy to throw around adjectives, again, you don’t know the reality on the ground, you don’t know the hearts and minds of the GCC people, nor how they’re political systems historically and cultural work.
