Bucharest is wild because you have so many gorgeous buildings inspired by 19th century Paris, but they are often interspersed with these communist-era wretches that make for jarring dichotomies
βόρειος βαρόνος@BorealBaron

I think of Romania as the most tragic case of European cultural destruction brought by communism. After WWI, it had doubled in size and possessed a tremendous intellectual vanguard. Codreanu and the Iron Guard built a massive movement with real electoral support, volunteers on the ground, and warriors who were ready to die fighting against communism across Europe (a clear counterexample to the claim that fascism only triumphs in humiliated nations). They would have taken power if the monarchy had not crushed them and killed their leadership. Then Antonescu removed the king and Romania became Germany’s strongest ally on the Eastern Front, providing around 800,000 soldiers, a major contribution that often goes unnoticed, until the war turned against the Axis and the monarchy carried out another coup. By then it was too late. The communists had already entered the country and installed local collaborators who had previously had no popular support. This is how the country ended up being ruled by clowns like Ceausescu. Many of its best people, like Cioran and Eliade, fled the country, and they were only the first wave of talent to leave. After the fall of communism, the country was left in a very disadvantaged position, with a huge distance to recover and rebuild from the damage caused by marxism

@Yung_Spengler Re: purge: Western reporting/propaganda on enemy states exaggerates the severity of their internal conflicts. Normally the higher echelons of a country’s armed forces attract patriotic individuals. I doubt Chinese patriots would have anything against retaking Taiwan in principle.

The main thing giving China pause re: Taiwan, is despite US armament stocks having dwindled considerably, the calculus still STRONGLY favors the defender in the Drone Age… That and Xi’s January purge of General Zhang Youxia, which has turned the military firmly against him.
Ben the Seer@MikaelCBernard

There’s really nothing stopping China from taking Taiwan rn. Like literally nothing. The UN has collapsed, international law is over, geopolitical assasinations are legal again, and occupation is cool.

It's over. The Spanish state murdered her. They coerced a mentally ill woman into assisted suicide because she had depression after being raped in a state-run facility by MENA migrant minors after being kidnapped from her parents. This is literal communism.

AI scammers designed to steal your voice with phone calls won't work with me because I have a special, weird, high pitched, affected "talking on the phone to a stranger" voice. No idea why.

I mean, how the hell is this even legal? Was it part of the contract that the seller is entitled to say “screw you and the money you've paid us, we're talking these weapons for ourselves”?

@TheLaurenChen @ramzpaul There are lots of low-IQ populations. Blacks stand out among them through low self-control. That’s the reason for their high crime rates, and for many of their other peculiarities.

Low-IQ people have trouble grasping hypothetical situations What isn't discussed enough is how this translates into a lack of empathy They're not even able to process the implications of their actions on themselves, of course they can't/don't think about the impact on others
Samantha Smith@SamanthaTaghoy

Interviewer: “Do you ever think about the consequences of rape?” Illegal migrant: “Like, if she screams and wakes someone up?” Interviewer: “No, I’m talking about the girl.” Illegal migrant: “Yeah. When we rape her we might get an STD.” THIS IS WHAT’S COMING TO THE WEST.

This is not an exaggeration As @FistedFoucault recounted, the first agenda item for US State Dept in e.g. Eastern Euro nations is push for a gay pride parade to be held. It’s a litmus test: if local leaders balk, they’re deemed unfit to rule and the soft/hard coup plans ramp up

@Divkoshan @KeirDamian @FistedFoucault I don’t know if they can overthrow Iran’s government. They won’t declare victory until they kill a lot more people though, so I don’t expect this war to end soon.

@FistedFoucault Some (most?) US bases in the Gulf are abandoned. Lots of people are dead. Neoconnery less popular than ever. I finally understood why Kushner and Witkoff wanted to end the war in Ukraine: they were trying to shift limited resources (anti-air missiles, etc.) to the Iranian front.

My bet is that it's more of the latter. Takeoff is basically vibes based at the moment. > "Either we hit a hard takeoff singularity and compute becomes currency, or a bunch of the biggest companies on earth are going to implode and bring the global economy down with them"
Sterling Crispin 🕊️@sterlingcrispin

Everyone really pushed all of their chips onto the table. If you dont win you’re in last place. Either we hit a hard takeoff singularity and compute becomes currency, or a bunch of the biggest companies on earth are going to implode and bring the global economy down with them.
