We are the last humans of the long 20th century: the last to experience Writing, and the Image. We’re also the threshold generation, witnessing the accelerating disintegration of the forms we love into noise. What do we do?

After Benjamin Netanyahu posted a video showing he is not dead yet, people are now speculating about why his coffee cup, which was filled to the brim, did not spill when he lifted it. This is now being called Coffeegate.

@Permanentkritik And when capitalism ends, who knows what the result will be, but it will not be a return to the postwar epoch of Fordist compromise.

@Permanentkritik I don't want to be unduly polemical, but that's a fundamental misunderstanding of the historical dynamics of capitalism. The movement from formal subsumption to real subsumption to the realization of the secular tendency of the rate of profit is irreversible.

Habermas will become one of those thinkers that was huge in their time and then forgotten unless we make the world a better place than it is Heading

@Permanentkritik Ah I see. But yeah that social democratic compromise depended entirely on conditions of rising profitability that are never coming back, so the ideologue of the postwar boom will have to suffer the same eclipse as Keynesianism.

@redwithoutwhy So if he is remembered it won’t be because of the brilliance of his thought but because of some sort of movement to a similar compromise that ideas will resonate with and provide jobs for libs

@Permanentkritik I'm confused then - forgotten unless we make the world a better place? A better world is a world in which Habermas is unforgotten?

Habermas really wrecked the possible receptions of his work by living long enough for him to clarify the political consequences of his thought.

Beyond that opera/ballet comment, it’s very funny that people started to find Chalamet annoying once he started dressing and liking things they didn’t think fit the idea they had created about him. They’re never going to forgive him for that betrayal.

@synekura_audio Conceptually untenable, historically superficial, and art historically tendentious. Why Schoenberg and Proust rather than Malevich, El Lissitzsky, Le Courbusier, eg? But this approach to "time" and "space" doesn't even get off the ground, precisely bc of 20th C developments.
