@jburnhams @wallaceme Same reaction. My obvious question to supporters would be - "What did you think might happen when you bought a house on a narrow road immediately facing the country's largest children's hospital?" Surely one has to factor in continual development...

Ugh - the Royal Marsden helped to save my wife’s life, and they’re trying to do so for many, many more people. And NIMBYs are trying to stop it because the lifesaving building is taller than they’d like?? Give me strength.
Looking for Growth@lfg_uk

A group of NIMBYs have courageously grouped together to try and block the development of... ...a cancer hospital. The UK's cancer survival rates are up to 25 years behind other European countries. Is this acceptable?

@nakedfoul Wasn't it Wilco last time we checked in with this sort of discourse?

Music publications will say just anything on here. "Pavement were the Beatles of their generation." No they weren't. That isn't true.

@LewistheLight1 One could make an argument that it's his best record, it's that good (and I'm a full career Zoot-stan, one of very favourites tenorists to listen to, he just flows and swings)

@fritzpape Jon Eardley is a very interesting name to see. Plays very nicely on some of Gerry Mulligan's best records (his mid 50s pianoless sextet, even better than the quarter imo). Then somehow pops up on wild looking euro jazz like this! Looks an interesting find!

It's always a good time when I find an unknown-to-me record in the bins and the homies at the front are like "yeah we knew you'd be the one buying this" - I mean, how could I not with all those friends on the back!

@rljshaw @World0fEcho @nakedfoul Hah yeah a lot of bands trying to sound like PMG right then. I’m a little more partial to the crossing but 1st 2 are good. Ecotopia not so much

@DamCou Indeed. If HR pros really want better letters, they should abandon the rigid "describe how you meet each item on the person spec through examples" format. If one makes the first filter a mere contest in mechanical (over-)optimisation,then using AI seems a fair candidate response!

The only shocking thing here is that a human being is reading anything at all. Even back in the 90s, the first pass over most applications for most jobs was by optical character recognition software. This was followed by processing by non-AI programs that screen for keywords.
Kate Barker-Mawjee@KateBMwriting

I’m reviewing job applications and 90% of the cover letters are AI generated. They use identical phrases and have exactly the same structure and word count. Why do people do it?

@mpalmond They did what?! Around 2008? I've seen libraries dispense of older editions / duplicate stack books before, but usually (and more sensibly) accompanied by a book sale where students have the opportunity to buy this stuff and generate a little cash...

@Kotoshioka Amazing tribute with an amazing cross-generational line up - great to hear Joe Henderson in this context. Vol 2 is very nice too.

Once again listening to Ornette Coleman and Pat Metheny's majestically confounding 1986 masterpiece "Song X."

@jacobjbg @fritzpape My favourite Towner probably. No slight on his many other fine records or work with Oregon, but for me it's the place when you can best hear just how unique his playing was. As you say, it's one hell of a Nardis too!

in the words of the great @fritzpape, we mourn through spinning. thus begins an all-day Towner fest. starting off w one i haven’t listened to much since getting it. wonderful, esp at 5:30 am. truly an ascended master!

@coach_enjoying I have the Dillard + Clark albums on some sort of twofer CD, but for me Wheatstraw Suite made more of an impression (but have that on LP). I also have the first Dillards album (before they heard the Byrds I guess) and it's jolly good fun, if more traditional. Fine band I agree!

@nakedfoul @alshipley I'd probably still take Bob on jorts - he set the standard - but Pat's shorts game was top tier and in Speedos he remains unmatched

Never quite fully bought into the hype around 50s Art Pepper - late 70s/early 80s Art, however, I am now completely sold on. Properly world-weary playing; George Cables proves a fine foil too. US original on Galaxy #Jazz #NowPlaying
