@janeclarejones@flowepower66@SallyPezaro@LizNewnham The people I feel sorry for are all those women around the world giving birth without a doctor to assign a sex to their new borns. How do they manage I wonder?
@CriminelleLaw That's great. Epidurals go into birth preference lists too. In the same way you're allowed to request regional analgesia, others are allowed to request that they have access to whatever comfort measures they've chosen for THEIR own birth.
@TheActualSarah@minifingerz@joshjreynolds@CriminelleLaw Totally agree. The majority of birth plans are simply asking for evidence based care. If this was standard practice then people wouldn't have to ask. Much easier to brand everyone with a birthplan as hysterical then to question maternity care as a whole.
@minifingerz@joshjreynolds@CriminelleLaw IMO “your plan should be to have a healthy baby” is excusing crap care, over medicalisation and promoting obedience and arbitrary policy. Find me a women who goes into labour with a birth plan who doesn’t want a healthy baby.
My wife was a Labor & Delivery RN for 10 years. The amount of birthplans she was handed was insane. So many stories of women bawling bc their birthplan didn't work out. She would often tell the women that the plan should be to have a healthy baby. Her unit "loved" all the doulas who would come in and try to order the RNs around. None of the doulas had college degrees...let alone medial degrees. One doula fell asleep on the couch during one lady's labor. The amount of insanity Labor & Delivery RNs have to deal with is insane.
@NewstalkFM Screaming at the radio listening to Johnathon repeating the same point over and over. Read the stats, look at the figures. Mass "abortion up to birth" is a myth, it's not happening. Stop detracting.
@rochfora@Sineadmcgar My reading is anything but bizzare. Can you say with certainty you know exactly what is going on here?
Have you ever had anybody make false allegations about you and felt powerless to disprove them? If you deny this is possible you have a very closed mind.
Which I find bizzare.
@vinniemcdermott@Sineadmcgar What an utterly bizarre reading of this situation. Maybe read Sinead's thread for some professional insight before further comment.
@Sineadmcgar It is a "he said, she said" situation.
Nobody knows with certainty in any individual case.
A responsible parent dealing with an abusive or an abusive+/- addicted partner would not make public allegations, rather private ones to the relevant public services social/legal.
@HerNameIsSorca@niamhisainmdi You need a new GP! The vast majority of antibiotics don't affect the pill/the bar... Unless youre taking them for TB or meningitis.
being told i can’t get the IUD today by my doctor because i might want to have kids within the next 5 years (i’m 22) sums up how women are just not respected in healthcare
@davehartin Too far, too fast? The waiting time for gender identity clinic is >3 years, most likely around 5 years.
How slow would they want it to be for a group with >40% suicidal ideation in the last year, while gender affirming care is recommended by every major medical organisation?
@NewstalkFM Somehow the conversation has jumped from children learning about LGBTI+ people in an age appropriate way to them being taught how to transition. This is mass hysteria that Newstalk is pedalling.
@StephenGuilfoyl BIBA is standard. There's nothing lazy about using abbreviations- they are 100% necessary in healthcare. There's no way I have time to write "spontaneous rupture of membranes" every single time. We just need people to stop making them up as they go along!
@HerNameIsSorca@ruairijfahy@UCDFitness@rite20 I imagine he's missing the point on purpose.. Unless he thinks breastfeeding a baby is comparable to bringing a cooked meal/cans of Coke to a pool bank to feed a child that understands reasons why we don't do that?
Yesterday at the @UCDFitness swimming pool I was shocked to be reprimanded by a staff member for breastfeeding my 7-month old baby, asked to leave, and to go to a changing cubicle to feed him. Here’s what happened and why it’s not ok… (1/x)
@rochfora@MevMav@sue_haddon@jenhock13 Yes, round babies up, put them in cots, have robots give them bottles & change their nappies so parents can sleep, eat chocolate covered strawberries & drink champagne until they feel like picking them up, preferably before primary school. Or read what we’ve actually suggested.
“Baby friendly” policies result in mothers so exhausted they fall asleep breastfeeding, smothering their babies, babies suffocating during skin to skin, failure to identify babies whose struggle to feed indicates infection, underfeeding ➡️jaundice, dehydration & hypoglycaemia 😳
