This is 100% the experience in NYC. Hotel bookings are *lower* here than this time last year. Bookings into JFK are down from last year. FIFA had projected 1.2M visitors to NY/NJ. We will be lucky to hit 1/3 of that. Huge disappointment.

I find soccer purists weird. Every sport, as it gets popular, makes adjustments to accommodate television coverage. Yes, the phony cover story of "hydration" is a bit silly, but healthy sports allow television networks to make more money so they can make more money!

@BeautifulGameJS A very good assessment perhaps, but hopes are high among American fans. I think what happened in the 1980 WInter Olympics for the amature USA hockey team is giving cause for hope.

The US have been seriously impressive, I’ve never seen them look this good in World Cup play.
With that being said, pre-tournament they’ve gotten beaten repeatedly by bigger opposition, so UNTIL they do that, my expectations remain that a World Cup quarter-final is accurate.
