Think this reflects some of the emerging lanes in the center, a healthy development for a growing ecosystem Center of the Party - major players: moderates pushing back against leftists within party - big stage: 2028 primary jockeying - box out tactics: what not to do (questionnaires, etc) Center of the Country: - minor players: conservative Democrats growing distance from party - smaller stage: red districts - insurgent tactics: YOLO fun mishegas that attracts Makes sense for Center of the Party to say “No AOC” Center of the Country to say “Newsom? GTFO”

Completely support this effort - will note that donors to groups should see how they are using money. ACLU claimed they didn’t know Biden’s positions because we didn’t fill out questionnaire in ‘20 Primary so they spent a lot of money attacking us huffpost.com/entry/the-aclu

@mcbyrne @StefFeldman ‘The base is the big tent’ doesn’t make sense. Can you describe it differently? I think you mean ‘activists’ (overwhelmingly college educated, coastal, and white) when you use the word ‘base’.

Q for this & similar projects: how will you measure what content persuades/mobilizes? I've yet to see digi folks measure success beyond views/likes. I've even seen them hype a post as "effective" bc it had a huge # of impressions, when that post was ratio'd with neg content.

🚨 NEW: I spoke to the team behind "Headquarters," a new project that will rebrand Kamala Harris' viral social media accounts in order to promote progressive content ahead of the midterms. chaoticera.news/p/behind-the-s…

@mcbyrne @StefFeldman Melissa, When you say ‘base’ can you describe characteristics so we can all be on the same page as to what cohort of voters you are referring to?

@StefFeldman It’s a balance between base engagement and persuasion. Lots of very serious dems poo poo base engagement and just want to appease swings. But also young people like sincerity most. See: Bernard Sanders

This will be common sense to most democrats outside of the elite circles but still a great reminder of the path available to win elections and govern effectively, should we choose.

The alternative history where @schultzohio stays on after the 2020 primaries and ends up in the West Wing…

First in @semafor: A new study of Democrats' rotten brand, endorsed by Biden's former CM and a former DCCC chair, blames not "the groups" but whole party for embracing identity politics and left-wing ideas. The way out: Return to Obama 2012/Bernie 2016. semafor.com/article/10/27/…

@steveschale @RepJeffries @SenSchumer The DNC hasn't done that either, which is why donors are spending their money elsewhere. Nor are they listening to their base, which is telling them to pick leaders who will fight. Two sides of the same coin.

@Timodc Why did Biden shift left? Bc James Clyburn forced him to in return for his endorsement before Super Tuesday. This is cute, but let’s be real.
