Remember how Ukrainian Canadians such as myself were called censors and bullies for criticizing the film ‘Russians at War’ as Russian Soft-Propaganda? And how despite the filmmakers dubious past as an employee of Russian state media, we were being unfair to her? I spoke out at length about the film’s clever and sophisticated approach to co-opting “pro-peace” messaging to manipulate Canadian audiences. I (and many others) were blocked by the filmmaker and producers for crying foul over her own social media posts, accusing Ukrainian Canadians of being the descendants of Nazis, and claiming detractors hadn’t seen the film (I’ve seen it twice. They can keep the change.) Well, we were gaslit. Tonight, Trofimova and one of the Producers were special guests on a webinar led by two organizations whose central mission is the withdrawal of Canada from NATO. Attendees received a reference packet of pure propaganda, from exclusively blatant pro-Russian, pro Putin sources. Our community told you Trofimova had an agenda. I hope you’ll write about this, @HertzBarry, in fairness, and speak to Ukrainians about the pain this has caused.
