Extremely blessed to announce that I have matched in Emergency Medicine at Stony Brook University Teaching Hospital in Long Island, New York!!!!! I am honored to join such a stellar program committed to training some of the best EM physicians! I already spoke to this some in my post from Monday, but words can’t describe how elated I am. Not matching last year broke me, and I spent most of the past year depressed after being ripped from my support system and thrust to a place where I know nobody while doing a TY that, while great, is not what I had hoped to achieve during the SOAP. And overall, I spent a lot of time questioning my place in Emergency Medicine in general. One year later, I finally know what it feels like to match to a program that I truly wanted to be at, but more importantly, that truly wanted ME. I am a more confident physician, and more confident in myself and my ability to do hard things. It took a while to see the silver lining, but I truly believe things happen for a reason—and I now know I was meant to take this path, despite it not being what I initially had envisioned. I have been blessed to be surrounded by incredible colleagues and new friends both within and outside of work, finding a small, loving, supportive community here in Fayetteville during the hardest year of my life and slowly recovered from the trauma of the 2025 Match and SOAP process. And, I have had such incredible support from new and existing mentors as I worked tirelessly to achieve this goal. It still doesn’t feel real. I keep rechecking my email and the NRMP website to make sure there wasn’t a mistake, even though my PD has emailed us all and personally called me already. I am so incredibly proud of myself and the hard work I put in to claw my way back from failure, of my perseverance borne of my decades of martial arts training. Now, the real work begins as I look towards this exciting next chapter of becoming a BAFERD. I couldn’t be more thrilled, but I also couldn’t be more thankful for the challenges that have led me to this point. @heywardboyce In some ways I do think it’s like that. I am quite smart, and I pick up on most things quickly, so it’s fairly easy for me to learn even very difficult things. But I struggle with other things - focus, confidence, procrastination. Being smart can’t fully compensate for that.

Today I was talking about something that happened in 2007 and my coresident asked what grade I was in then and I had to be like “Um I was 21 and giving birth to my first baby.” 😅💀

My daughter had to do a presentation at school about her future career goals and she did hers on being a family doctor and talked about medical school and the Match and referenced my profile on our hospital website. How freaking cool is it that my life is my kid’s dream?? 🥹

When your mom/wife keeps staying at work late to catch babies and you never know when she’s gonna be home. 😅

When residency has been making you miserable and exhausted all the time, but then your 15 year old daughter posts a TikTok of her studying captioned “motivated because every day I’m closer to being just like my mom” and you just 🥹😭

God I have never felt anything more strongly

I knew residency would be extremely busy, but I did not realize how impossible it would feel to schedule anything during normal business hours. I need to file something at the courthouse, see my own doctor, and get a haircut, and this requires expedition-level planning.

When your son sends you a picture of a laceration on his cheek to ask if he needs stitches, and when you ask what happened he responds “Oh we were playing basketball and I hit it on the rim of the goal.” 😳

Parenting teenagers is fun. 😅

Today at work nothing extraordinary happened, but I was struck multiple times by how I was handling situations/procedures with ease that would have made me nervous/uncomfortable even 3 months ago. Super cool feeling. The growth is expensive, but worth it.

@CanadianKayMD Absolutely wild. Like it’s impossible to exaggerate how perfectly fine and chill this lady was. Just “it’s been feeling kind of hard to swallow for a few days.” Unreal.

@stacybmitchell My mother had “stubborn GERD” one day & I told her to go to the ED since I was already there with my son (pneumonia.) She had a STEMI & became quite unstable. Got lytics despite previous ICA bleed which was a gutsy call. STEMIs can be wild with how they present.

I wish there was a way to block Pitt discourse on here because whew lord the desire to respond to some of these takes from people who clearly have no idea what our jobs entail is making me crazy.

@drrdemon Barely hanging onto the third thing, but for the first two I’m lucky that my husband is willing to do it all. I’m absolutely useless once I leave work.

How does anyone keep their home clean and their fridge full and their will to live during training

I am so sorry that this man is busy running a business so that we can afford luxuries like food and health insurance and he cannot immediately respond to your inquiries about Kinsley’s jersey number. May I suggest that you get a job about it?

Lolol my husband got demoted to assistant coach of our 7yo’s rec basketball team today because he would only respond to the group chat after work in the afternoons and the neurotic moms wanted “someone more committed to the [completely volunteer!!] job to head the team.” 😅🤣

I wish I was the kind of person who could just not care about making things better. Like I’m envious of people who can just sort of shrug and put up with suboptimal parts of systems without the burning need to improve them. I’m an irredeemable fixer and it causes me such grief.

It’s my 40th birthday, and after a 15 hour night shift I’m happy to report that I don’t feel a day over 65! 🥳

My attending and I realized this morning that we both have birthdays this week, and there are not nearly enough years between our ages relative to our respective career stages and net worths. I am DISTRAUGHT. 😭🤣
