No, UK law does not require this. The Online Safety Act (and Ofcom rules) mandates stronger child protections for online services/apps, but explicitly does not cover age checks at the device/OS level for iPhones. Apple added it in iOS 26.4 and phrased the prompt as "UK law requires," but sources like BBC, POLITICO, and Apple's own docs confirm it's not mandated—they're doing it proactively.

@ProtonVPN On top of that, if you don’t verify your age your messages will be scanned, there’ll be apps you can’t download and content filters.

35 million UK iPhone users now have to provide a credit card or ID just to use their phone normally. The recent update mentioned new emojis & updates to Apple Music, only for users to be confronted with an Age Verification screen. Apple said UK law requires this. It doesn't.

I already have no mobile phone, I've an old laptop but when I can't go online any more, I live happily without as most in my village. Live without internet is possible. If everyone, or at least a well amount of people, would simply refuse this for ONE day, it would be enough to stop the insanity.

Age verification is moving off websites and into your operating system (yes, even you, Linux). California just passed a law requiring it. The UK already has it. More states are following. Here's why that's a much bigger deal than it sounds. 🧵 1/6

@larissawaters Why don’t you give free drinks to everyone in the country, pick the bill and pay for it from your own pocket, madam?

Making public transport free, for as long as this crisis goes on for, must be on the table at National Cabinet today. This would be immediate cost-of-living relief, and take the pressure off fuel supplies. Billionaires took us to war, and the rest of us are paying for it.

@ianbremmer The US can open Hormuz next week by simply evacuating all US bases in the Middle East, ending all military and economic aid to Israel, and lifting sanctions on Iran. The entire world wins except Israel's land thieving regime.

🚨 Are you watching what's happening right now? This morning JPMorgan told Meta to fire 20% of employees to save $5 billion.. literally Tonight Meta did it.. And the stock SURGED. Read that one more time. 14,000 people just lost their jobs nd Wall Street celebrated.. The stock went UP. Your job is not an asset to the company.. It's a cost nd the market just proved it will REWARD companies for deleting you. This is a business model.. Fire humans.. Buy AI. Watch stock go up.. Repeat. Your loss is their gain. Literally. They freed up 14,000 salaries to buy more GPUs from Jensen.

The UK's official business registry, where every company director must register their home address by law, just exposed all of it to anyone who pressed the back button. No hacking. Just a browser. The government can't secure a website and yet PM Starmer wants to introduce a national digital ID...

🚨 HMRC quietly bought phone-tracking tech that can mimic cell towers & identify nearby devices - a capability usually linked to law enforcement. The purchase, from surveillance vendor Cellxion, reportedly began in 2021 but stayed undisclosed for years. computerweekly.com/news/366639490…

@QBCCIntegrity Errr….they can already do this with all your digital purchases. Your credit card your Apple pay and your debit card are all traceable and can be cancelled at any given time. The solution for example is using cash or privacy coins or AESI app.

With all the noise in Australia at the moment, don’t lose sight of the fact that government are ramming through digital currency at the moment. This will have the ability to track and terminate ANY money at government whim. This is total control.

Distracted by the slaughter of children in Iran & Lebanon? Me too! But what better time could there be for govt to quietly relaunch its Digital ID plan? Missed it? Me too! But look who’s celebrating… The director of ‘govt innovation’ at the Tony Blair Institute! 1/

@TutaPrivacy We should do a pilot test on every single politician - make their every single transaction recorded on a blockchain, every move on a camera, every word on a microphone….and then collated data available to citizens, if needed, for the better world

Today the EU Parliament said NO. ❌ Voluntary scanning by Outlook, Gmail, LinkedIn, etc. might come to an end on April 6 in the EU. Keep pushing everyone! 👏🥳
Tuta@TutaPrivacy

Today is the day, the EU decides on Chat Control 1.0. Will they let the Trojan Horse through the gate and let Google, Microsoft, LinkedIn etc continue to scan all your messages? We at Tuta say NO. ❌ No scanning ❌ No mass surveillance ❌ No age verification Instead we fight for: ✅ Encryption ✅ Privacy ✅ Open Source And so should the EU. Stop #ChatControl now! 🥊 Curious if your emails are safe? Check here which providers scan your data: 👉 tuta.com/blog/voluntary…

UK Gov’t launches Digital ID “consultation” The supposed aim of this long and drawn-out process is to get vital feedback about the thing that's definitely going to happen, and therefore be able to best benefit the public when it happens. The real aim is an extended PR tour creating a façade of conversation and compromise prior to the roll-out of the entirely unchanged plan. The technology is all built, the app designed, the services locked in. What they're waiting for is the brief process of normalisation to elapse so that not too many people protest. And protest we should, because a cursory reading of the full consultation is alarming. #digitalid off-guardian.org/2026/03/11/uk-…
