One risk with tech books? They age fast. Terraform in Depth by @tedivm focuses on durable IaC thinking — not short-lived features — across @HashiCorp's Terraform & @OpenTofuOrg. When the ecosystem evolves, the fundamentals still hold. For example, @github now supports @dependabot updates for OpenTofu, but Robert's book still holds. @Zendesk your security team needs to get on top of the spam issues. I'm not one of your customers, but I get slammed every day by your broken platform being abused for spam. It's absolutely ridiculous, and I am if it doesn't stop I'm asking my ISP to block your servers.

@dieworkwear @SpartanConti067 I moved from SF to Chicago, and bought my first house last year. It's way more affordable here, hands down. The people acting like it's violent have no idea what they're talking about. I live on the south side and it's the quietest neighborhood I've ever lived in.

This is one of the most ridiculous legal documents I've ever read. These people knew they were committing fraud, and even joked about going to jail. They could have killed people.
Byron Tau@ByronTau

Executives for a California company will plead guilty to knowingly shipping masks that were mislabeled as N95s during the pandemic. The charging document includes this gem of a line: “We’re all going to jail I know it." From @SeamusHughes courtwatch.news/p/scoop-compan…

@HadARottenDay @KeyanCarlile You need a deposit to hold the date with the venue, and typically a second payment to the venue a few weeks before the event with a final payment when the event is over. They should have cancelled weeks ago.

I’ve been following a con called SplatCon that just cancelled their entire event the day before it was supposed to start and deleted all their posts and disabled comments. Apparently they aren’t responding to people’s refund requests. They had SO many guests confirmed, too.

@lacherbauer @Eric_Erins @cta The TIF *has* to be spent on infrastructure, as do the other sources. For every 15 cents CTA is spending they're getting 85 cents from the state in various ways and another $2 from the fed. CTA is essentially paying for 5% of this project.

So are the CTA and CPS basically going to collapse under the weight of their own fiscal mismanagement? What happens if that happens?

@lacherbauer @Eric_Erins @cta For every $1 spent by the CTA on that they are getting $2 from the federal government. Most of the money they get for it can't be spent on anything else. Cancelling the project wouldn't do much for CTA's budget as far as I can tell.

@Eric_Erins The @cta can buy itself some time, retrench, focus on existing service, by pulling the plug on the WORLD’S MOST EXPENSIVE elevated metro project. Dorval’s vanity project, the Red Line Extension, now costing an astronomical $1.026 BILLION per mile. 🧵➡️ x.com/lacherbauer/st…
Alexander Lacherbauer@lacherbauer

The cost of the @cta’s Red Line Extension (RLE) has gone up AGAIN, now reaching an astronomical $1.026 BILLION per mile. This makes it the WORLD’S MOST EXPENSIVE elevated metro line in the world. This level of expense is unjustifiable given the low projected future ridership and the minimal improvements in travel times for residents of the Far South Side. The RLE is a waste of scarce transit funds. Given the skyrocketing construction costs, the looming fiscal crisis for @cta operations, the ongoing deterioration of service, and the lack of confidence in @cta President Dorval Carter from both the public and city council, the decision to move forward with the Red Line Extension must be reconsidered. Neither Chicago nor the @cta can afford this overpriced, low-priority vanity project. Instead of focusing on the RLE, the @cta should address the slow zones caused by years of deferred track maintenance across the ‘L.’ Alternatively, investing in a new Mid-City rapid transit line along Western Avenue could create a transformative new travel paradigm for Chicago, unlike a line extension at the edge of the city that serves low density area and offers limited network connections. 1/3

@protectedfool @Eric_Erins I know! I can't wait for it to be finished. My wife has some mobility issues so we're really looking forward to the elevator. Picking a place where I would never have to drive was a top priority. I also love my neighbors, they've been fantastic.

@tedivm @Eric_Erins I also live in AP and I take the bus to work everyday and took the 79th bus in HS. Everything is convenient in this neighborhood. They’re even almost done with remodeling the Metra station now.

While I understand why people give caution to avoid certain neighborhoods one of my favorite TikTok follows is this white guy who is always wearing a Sonic The Hedgehog gear who lives in Auburn Gresham, is more or less constantly hanging out in Englewood, and he’s fine.

@Eric_Erins Yup! Bought a house in Avalon Park, and it's been great. I'm right by the 79th Metra Station. My only complaint is that I have to take a ten minute bus ride to get to the lake now, instead of just walking over.
