@skalskip92 What's the case for the tire tracking? I wonder how widespread / common place RFID tags in consumer tires have become these days. I'd probably want to see some accrual examples of it working well with dirty / muddy / salted wheels first too ;)

no, it’s okey. I’m actually less excited about documents, and a lot more impressed with things like this. reading serial number from a tire was traditionally a very hard task to solve. dirt, ware, light, angle. GLM-OCR is really good at it. Gemini can solve it to, but GLM-OCR is 0.9B model I can run locally.

then again, the rig looks... substantial. this would be a lovely writeup, if the team responsible for this felt generous...

@skalskip92 Sorry for coming across overly critical. Just a bit of a stark observation on quality of tooling... Maybe you can please answer this for me - surely stuff like OCR on known typography / a probable pool of common fonts, is a done deal? Am I missing something? Why the AI?

this GLM-OCR experiment is a lesson for me. I’m sorry. for 0.9B model GLM-OCR is very impressive. great for small things like plate numbers, serial numbers, but the more I use it the more I notice it fall behind on following format instructions or overall accuracy. small things but compound. I got too excited too fast. whole morning today I’m getting messages from people getting mixed results. I’m sorry.

@skalskip92 bro. so few people seem to actually validate what they are building lately. "yeah, probably works"

@Ascii211 @_devalopr Is that not supposedly the missile? I'd expect the larger area to be the plume?

@StijnOerde @Ascii211 I wasn't expecting to see the misalignment on the quadrant bounding box sides, vs the horizontal and vertical extent markers... Also, random frames of fireball being thrown outside the active area? I'm not an INT guy, but this is strikingly inconsistent.

@tomfleet @Ascii211 That reticule tracks the aircraft well, but after the explosion it loses track a bit. Does not look off to me.

@StijnOerde @Ascii211 It really doesn't look that real to me. The reticule quality / marker alignment is another strong indicator that makes this seem like a fabricated video. It's all just "off".

@davidareader Fun tape delay design idea, perhaps. Surprised eBay allows AI images anywhere near the listings - you'd think they'd make effort to keep any use of it away from the process entirely.

..When you use AI for your product photos, installment nr 2: Not so much "reel to reel" as "reel to nowhere" Plenty of other silly things in the image besides that, too. ebay.co.uk/itm/1980026696…

i think chips with burnt-in LLMs that run at a very low power will probably result in much of the world around us being unneccesarily intelligent. cheaper to throw that chip and some flash with a readme into an automatic door opener than develop firmware for it.

@elmicomandante @sutoroveli_news If it's found to somehow be more cost effective for industry to print single parts at a time in free space, than to scan layers of a full build tray, I'm sure it'll be quick to market!
