@nosnibor1 Ha, OK. My feed has been 90% bait lately and my earnestness calibration is… off. I still forget how small the Mediterranean really is when seen on the actual globe.

@traxoot @jaileysjourney @NASA Not a joke, just a mistake. I thought specifically this was is what I was looking at. Although on second look I realize a somewhat notable landmass called "Europe" would be missing oof

Good morning, world! 🌎 We have spectacular new high-resolution images of our home planet, all of us looking back through the Orion capsule window at our Artemis II astronauts as they continue their journey to the Moon.

“You clicked a sneaky email!” Bitch this wasn’t sneaky. Your software made it all but unavoidable. To the trash, man. Can’t click it if I don’t report it.

Our phishing email reporting tool is hidden in submenu that involves clicking near the email itself. Can’t be done from the preview context menu or via the keyboard. I refuse to accidentally get remedial training from this company, so I insta-delete anything with their metadata.

@BrianCox_RLTW My challenge to the ostensible lawyer: Call me convicted pedophile to my face. Not only are you legally incorrect. But there are consequences to actions done in person that don’t manifest themselves behind the cover of a keyboard.

@plridleywrites @NidaKirmani If only there were an institution some type designed to enable this, perhaps with a series of instructional periods during which someone could follow a credentialed expert’s plan of study to develop the very skills you acknowledge they ought to have.

@NidaKirmani K but in the professional world outside academic the expectation is to use AI wherever you can. Doesn’t mean you shouldn’t know how to do things on your own however.

I used to mark students down for using AI. Now I refuse to mark their papers at all & instead call them in to have a conversation about integrity. I give them a chance to redo their work properly with a grade reduction. It's time consuming, yes, but it's also our job as teachers.

@cd_hooks Sadly, I used to edit (or write) these for Marine commanders and the dumb sentence at the end of the second paragraph is the only AI-sounding thing to me. Everything else is the weird house USMC style and writing poisoned by CEO leadership books at command/staff colleges.

@SamuelH21865527 Great, but the joke is that the name itself, rendered in English like this, calls to mind his undoing: “Achille’s Shield” sounds dangerously close to “Achille’s Heel.”

@DastDn It's referencing the Shield of Achilles from the Iliad, given to him by the gods to avenge the death of Patroclus. The shield is supernatural and the description takes an entire chapter/book of the epic.

I still have the paper crane and postcard my conversation partner gave me. I gave her a drawing I’d done of the park earlier that day. It was so cool that a day with no plan turned into this pleasant cultural exchange I still think about 13 years later.

Thinking back to the lovely group of elderly English-language students in Hiroshima who, after practicing their English with my friend and me, treated us to a feast of okonomiyaki where they believed we, as Americans, could eat the entire menu.

@ImNotOwned It’s so funny to be complaining about long lists of supposedly indecipherable ingredients only to pick up a bag of chips, see just “potatoes, vegetable oil, salt” and then declare *oil and salt* to be too much.

I’m white, so I get that these “mispronunciations” don’t come with a cultural memory of names being stolen or beaten out of my family, but also… sometimes people gotta remember that it’s good and normal to have several “names” between different types of people in your life.

My grandmother-in-law, with an intense Argentine Spanish accent, pronounced my name as if I were one of her children. Okinawans added a syllable because of the consonant cluster. Indian coworkers inverted two sounds. Schwabians said my name like it was French. All very cool.

Expired: Refusing to engage with a foreign name and just saying “Miss J” Tired: Over-pronouncing it as closely to the “original” as possible Inspired: Reconstructing the foreign name with your own native phonemes, showing respect by integrating it with your language

@sunnyright He and everybody with any passing knowledge of Christianity knows the concept of dying to the world and being raised to new life in Christ, enabled by His death and resurrection. These giggling boys spit on it when they say they hope “God kills him but spiritually haha ;)”

@razorfist I suspect the seminarian is able to see through the smirking pseudo theology that claims Paul’s description of his crucifixion “unto the world” maps to “I hope God kills him (spiritually haha).”

@traxoot Which Constitution were they speaking of 11 years later? Also, interpreting that line with a modern mind rather than understanding what they meant at the time is folly. They were still making sure NO "State Church" could be established to question their form of Christianity.
