@VaclavzAmeriky Disagreed. A developed theology doesn’t prove or guarantee a preservation of truth or original meaning
English

@VaclavzAmeriky Bc imo historically contextual interpretation using critical methods better helps us understand the context than reading Scripture within a Church’s theologically developed tradition
English

Who said critical scholarship is the scion of truth? I have multiple graduate degrees. Scholars aren’t the end-all, be-all of truth. Only weak minds think so.

@VaclavzAmeriky He did the thing

@metathomist @C_Gardner55 @moroni7_3 Catholic Raymond Brown in his AYBC commentary did not come to your same conclusion

English

@C_Gardner55 @moroni7_3 @tytrib And even notice that the qualifier is “like Him”’ in your own words. That is, a “likeness” which doesn’t mean “essentially equal” or having the same divine nature.

@VaclavzAmeriky He did the thing

Bible Thumpers: Critical scholarship suggests there is a naturalistic explanation for LDS scriptures Mormons: Critical scholarship suggests there is a naturalistic explanation for the Bible Bible Thumpers: Mormons hate the Bible. They believe all that liberal, atheist BS scholarship

No but guys we have to take a mentally unbalanced Freemason treasure hunter conman seriously when he said he had a vision in the woods.

@VaclavzAmeriky 5th century Catholic bishop homilies? 💀 You should take Catholic scholar Raymond Brown more serious (cf AYBC)
English

@VaclavzAmeriky Critical historical doesn’t equal liberal and misguided. Grow up

@VaclavzAmeriky I’d like to see what books you’d recommend for the Gospel of John

I think about this frequently. It was actually a Catholic theologian Stephen H Webb who turned my attention to your grandpa. Webb was one of the first non-Mormons where I experienced someone outside who was able to articulate the LDS positions fairly.
He said this of your grandpa “Of all the people at BYU, I am most in debt to David Paulsen, a fearless metaphysical pioneer who amiably opened the door for me to the richness of Mormon thought. He is truly a lover of wisdom, my mentor in Mormon studies, and an elder to me in the Christian faith.” -Mormon Christianity

@ThoughtfulSaint Yes. I grew up LDS. My grandfather was David L Paulsen and I still hold respect for your faith.

I prayed about the Trinity and received multiple answers about its truthfulness.
I prayed about the Book of Mormon (as a devout Mormon) and never received anything but confusion and darkness

If you haven’t read the Book of a Mormon; you haven’t investigated it and you aren’t qualified to to voice an opinion on its veracity. You haven’t looked at the evidence. I’d you attempt to claim otherwise, you’re just lying to yourself

Happy Mother's Day! There's a wonderful testament to the mother of our Savior, Mary, in the Book of Mormon.
Nephi, the hero of the early pages of the BofM, is shown the tree of life in a vision, and then he immediately thinks of the virgin who will bear a son -- why?
It turns out the culture of his day - this was a natural interpretation - as Professor Daniel Peterson showed us. Nephi and his Asherah. (turn captions on)
English

The unity the father and son have is a unity of consubstantial divine persons. Our unity with them is modeled on that but not identical with it.
Fire is hot by essence but an iron anvil in a fire is hot by participation. So the true doctrine of deification is participation in the Divine Essence. (2 Peter 1:4) not equality with it.
Amazing the Catholic Church has been teaching this for 2000 years and people like this guy come up and think they’re teaching something unique. We’ve seen it in various heresies throughout the centuries already.
English

@RestoredTruth8 I know he’s teaching at Chapel Hill where Ehrman was. But not sure of the relationship
English

@tytrib @JosephSmityogv @ArchangeloRom You claim the apostles taught it and the Fathers changed it. What is your proof?
