It’s honestly very troubling that Protestants feel the need to deny perpetual virginity. Paul himself says there are people, like himself, given the gift of celibacy to fully dedicate themselves to prayer. Would it not be fitting to the mother of God to be granted this gift?

Exactly. I don’t think you can display this existed significantly earlier than 180 AD. This is the ‘deposit of faith’ justification that suggests the doctrines were there all along without any sort of development but just needed the language. I think that’s a weak argument. And here’s why
