Unfortunately, there's not much the U.S. can do to stop Iran's leverage over Hormuz, which boils down to geography + guerrilla tactics. Iran can cheaply menace Hormuz indefinitely. Reopening it is expensive and hard. This is what Trump's foolish war has created.

Deeply troubling that Iran has apparently developed the capacity to make NatSec reporters uncritically stenograph unverified claims for months.

Lazy and self-serving analysis. Nobody is conspiring against Trump to undermine U.S. policy. The piece just tells us what we already know: in going to war, Trump bit off more than he can chew. He thought it would be like Venezuela. Instead, it has been anything but. He listened to hawks like Lindsey Graham, Mark Levin, FDD and the organization below who have been chomping at the bit for decades to take the Iranian regime down, and they sold him a bill of goods about how close those crazy ayatollahs were to a nuclear bomb that would destroy civilization as we know it (these are also the same people who convinced Trump to leave a nuclear deal that was working, which provided the regime with the perfect opportunity to grow the uranium stockpile they’re now worried about). He believed, naively, that Iran would cave after he turned the economic screws and started dropping bombs. As a consequence, he’s now stuck between returning to alarge-scale war he would prefer to avoid and signing a settlement that will be more favorable to Iran than it would have been otherwise. Don’t let the cheerleaders of this self-inflicted gunshot wound try to change the narrative. Sorry if this reads like a rant (maybe it is?) but it needs to be said.
