@Willob You need a guide. Lots of cultural norms around respect and interactions that are pretty strictly enforced

I wish I had ~$200mm in funding to run autonomous large old ships with good compartmentalization and anti-drone defenses all over (both air and sea) with live streaming video through the straits 24x7 just to flex, get live-fire testing, and potentially private escort service.

The tech industry is not ready for the backlash coming from AI-related job losses, data centres, energy costs etc. It’s going to be ugly, loud and likely violent. This is going to drive more and more economic development & technology deployment to the less regulated frontiers - space and maritime.

This century will see more of the services people thought just happened on land happen at sea. Starlink, compute at the edge, autonomy and energy generation at sea, all change the calculus here. There are many forms of economic activity that just make more sense at sea - less laws, more space, lots of natural resources. The ocean is truly a frontier in every sense of the word.
Dan Wright@danwrightSF

Armada and @akerbpasa are making history by deploying an AI factory on an offshore rig on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Data from compute-intensive applications will be processed locally, even when connectivity to shore drops. Decisions made faster. One hardened architecture replacing fragmented stacks — strengthening cybersecurity and simplifying compliance by design. This begins with a single rig, but it establishes a validated blueprint that can be replicated across additional assets, advancing the path toward more remote and autonomous offshore operations. In 2025, we deployed a full-stack modular data center at sea with the U.S. Navy—a first. We’re now extending that capability to offshore energy with Aker BP. The edge is not a theoretical place. Together with Aker BP, we’re making it operational. armada.ai/blog/aker-bp-a…

@Willob it is kind of remarkable that we’ve regulated the land so much that enterprise is fleeing to the seas

I feel like clearing the underwater mines in the straight of Hormuz is the ultimate opportunity for a Gundo startup doing USV's right now. Who's building this? @Saronic @HavocAi_USV ?

a common critique of the looksmaxxing phenomena is that it’s a symptom of an increasingly self-absorbed society. this is completely wrong. there are few greater gifts one can give to his fellow man than to make the world around him more beautiful. you have a societal duty to looksmaxx
