A daredevil Dad &
his dreamer Son
With the biggest Superhero of my life -- my Dad Sri K N Muraleedharan Nair (83) -- a Kerala-govt award-winning Head Master. Whatever little I have achieved today, if at all, only because of my late Mom and my Dad.
When I wanted to learn music he got the best teacher to home for tuitions; when my PT teacher discovered some badminton skills in me during Class 8, my Dad built a court behind our backyard; to teach me basics of Chemistry he set up a lab at home where the father-son duo would often get into experiments; during our trips together to Sabarimala, he explained in detail the science behind spirituality and the reasons behind rituals. When the senior Congress leader and Union Minister from Kerala Sri C M Stephen died in 1984, he took me to their house and introduced me to then Union Minister Buta Singh who touched my head and blessed me with the then Kerala CM Sri K Karunakaran shaking hands with a 11-year-old trainee-dreamer. When I left an engineering course mid-way without the consent of my parents, he banged the phone after telling me the doors of our home will always be shut for a non-achiever-son. When he came to know his Engg drop-out son got a full-time job in Deccan Chronicle at the age of 20, the head master's iron-coated mind melted forcing him to send me a telegram that read: "Your Mother is waiting for you at home. When are you coming?" ☺️ During this #Onam season, I didn't miss a single class of my Chemistry teacher. He was flawless as usual teaching a new lesson in life: Difficulties & Struggle. May your tribe grow Murali Sir. My Pranams... #AKM 🪔
