My second highlighted game of the Hatfield vs McCoy Shootout had the kind of build-up that makes a showcase setting pop, a highly anticipated matchup between Johnson Central and South Charleston with storylines on both sides, and a gym ready for something big. Johnson Central came in soaring off that garden fight win over Paintsville the night before, already battle-tested and already confident they could drag anybody into deep water. South Charleston came in wearing that reputation they have earned year in and year out, a program that consistently puts real talent on the floor and plays with a brand of basketball that is tough to survive when it is clicking. Early on, South Charleston was the sharper team, and they opened the game throwing haymakers. They carved up the defense with spacing that stretched the floor, smart reads that punished every late rotation, and constant movement that kept Johnson Central chasing. By halftime, they had built a strong 45-33 lead, and it was clear they were comfortable playing their style. In that first half, Brycen Orcutt (@brycenishim-IG) set the tone with scorching shot-making, raining threes with confidence and rhythm, and never letting the moment speed him up. He stayed locked in from the opening tip and kept delivering every time Johnson Central tried to settle in, the kind of shooting that forces a defense to scramble and opens up everything else. Johnson Central refused to fold. They came out of the break raising their defensive intensity and effort, bringing more pressure to the ball, fighting harder through actions, and making South Charleston work to get shots. The comeback push was real, and it came from toughness, energy, and a deterioration not accept the score. But when the game got tight, South Charleston had another gear, and it was driven by Malcolm Brown (@wydmalc). In the second half, he combined with Brycen to keep the lead safe, and down the stretch, Malcolm was absolutely unstoppable, getting to his spots, finishing through contact, and delivering answers whenever Johnson Central threatened to make its hard push. Johnson Central kept swinging, but South Charleston never fully let the door open, closing it out in the end for an 85-69 win, even if they could not put Johnson Central away until the final horn. South Charleston was led by Malcolm Brown with 33 points and Brycen Orcutt with 29 points, a one-two punch that controlled the biggest moments. Johnson Central was led by Brayden Shepherd(@BraydenShep3 )with 33 points, refusing to go quiet and keeping his team in striking distance with bucket after bucket. This one was also a coaching clinic in its own way. South Charleston executed with elite spacing, cuts, reads, and ball movement that stayed clean even when Johnson Central turned up the pressure, while Johnson Central showed real fight and made the second half a battle with effort and defense. South Charleston left with the win, Johnson Central left with proof they can get hit hard and still keep coming, and the Shootout got another game that lived up to the hype. Our 3 Senior Captains were Superheroes this season for laying the proper foundation. They never QUIT and we NEVER QUIT on them...and never would! Tough times lead to stronger bonds-but the key is REAL LOVE, not FAKE! Thank you Captains! #WarEagle
