Forestry investments in Mozambique's miombo region reveal complex effects on local livelihoods. This highlights the urgent need to rethink incentives, address land tenancy issues, and foster equitable growth.

Our findings show that exposure to forestry plantations increases farm sizes but reduces crop yields. While some households shift to non-farm employment, the expected boost in agricultural jobs isn’t realized.

Are forestry plantations truly a win-win for both environmental and social goals? 🤔 Our latest study looks at the impacts of large-scale forestry investments on small-scale agriculture in Mozambique: sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

🌿🌍 Excited to share the publication of our synthesis paper from the MIDLAND project, where I contributed during my postdoc fellowship. This research explains the emergence of land-use frontiers and their significant impact on sustainability. royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rs…

New research on remote Pacific islands reveals the power of agricultural value chains in enhancing dietary diversity and food security. But cautions on the need for nutrition components! 🍠🥬 @tisornmickey @AslihanRome @mabiso @sara_savastano

Sharing new paper with @mabiso, @xtinacha, @AslihanRome, and @sara_savastano in @Journal_GFS. We evaluate the impact of #valuechain in #PapuaNewGuinea #SolomonIslands. #Valuechain without #nutrition components may have unintended impact on #healthydiet. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

@PMeyfroidt @andreamyrte Thanks! Indeed, larger farms are typically under-represented in these household surveys, which makes the confidence interval wider. There are also many possible factors behind: crop types, dominance of small/large-scale holdings, etc; but a detailed look goes beyond this paper

@andreamyrte @xtinacha 🙏 @xtinacha would respond better but I think the confidence interval expands mainly because the sample gets smaller; in fact heterogeneity is much wider in the "smaller" end. There's large cross-country heterogeneity but explaining it is beyond this work; geographies, policies..
