Newly released video shows a Southwest Airlines pilot taken off a plane and arrested for DUI. On January 15, 2025, at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, Georgia, Southwest pilot David Paul Allsop (52, Bedford, NH) was arrested for DUI before co-piloting Flight 3772 to Chicago Midway. TSA agents smelled alcohol during crew check-in around 6 a.m. and alerted police. Allsop admitted to drinking “a few light beers” the night before (at least 10 hours earlier) and claimed any odor was from nicotine gum. Officers confirmed the alcohol smell. After initially refusing, Allsop performed field sobriety tests on the jet bridge and failed two of three (swaying on one-leg stand and issues with horizontal gaze nystagmus). He refused a voluntary blood draw. He was arrested under Georgia’s “less safe” DUI law, handcuffed, removed from the plane, and released after posting $3,500 bond. Southwest removed him from duty immediately; he is no longer with the airline. The flight was delayed nearly five hours. The FAA revoked his pilot certificate on March 12, 2025 (eligible to reapply after one year). Bodycam footage was released by Savannah Airport Police in August 2025. Criminal charges remain pending as of early 2026.
