Property taxes in America have gone too far. No one should have to pay $10,000–$15,000 a year just to remain in a home they already own free and clear. If you’ve spent decades paying off your mortgage, you shouldn’t face the risk of losing your home because you can’t keep paying the government every year. Homeownership should mean ownership—not permanent rent to the state. Most developed countries don’t place this kind of ongoing burden on homeowners. So why are we still defending a system that can tax seniors out of the homes they worked a lifetime to own?

@BraddrofliT so if every home owner paid off their mortgage, how would public services be paid for? Like Police and fire and emergency services etc...Other taxes would have to be raised to make up the difference. Which taxes would you be ok with being raised?

@CuriousTimL @BraddrofliT Why are you pretending there aren’t other ways to collect taxes besides immoral property taxes that prevent people from owning property they paid for?

@doescomputing @BraddrofliT If the *immoral property tax* is just shifted to another form of taxing you, but with a different name, wouldn't it still be an immoral tax? Same tax, just different mechanism to collect it
