@survivorcbs LOVING this season. First the updated auction 🎉 Then a fun twist to have people lose their votes. What if in the future the way to earn your vote back is if you can do the endurance challenge longer than the winner did instead 🤔

@Namaraledu A5: Music playlists while working are easy and students get into picking which genre or artist we listen to. YouTube is also simple but gives students someone besides me to listen to and then I recap. I also like finding online games / simulations that gamify pre-labs #RIHPD

@Namaraledu A4: Dissections in anatomy. Prosthetic arm in biomechanics. They’re things students know about and look forward to all year. Perfect for when they’re otherwise wanting to check out for summer. #RIHPD

@Namaraledu A3: If the whole class is off-task or not engaged, changing direction entirely can be helpful. If it’s just a student or two then a quick “hey” or “whatcha working on” can usually redirect. Sometimes taking a walk refocuses when they get back as well #RIHPD

@Namaraledu A2: It can be hard when students lack internal motivation, but I try to find some way to connect what we’re learning to their personal interests by getting to know them #RIHPD

@Namaraledu A1: One motivator is by showing students that staying focused now means student choice or no homework later. Real world applications are also a huge motivator. They want to learn about things they know they can use outside the classroom. #RIHPD

@Namaraledu Last: I leave lots of comments on assignments, especially formative ones. We review in class after I’ve graded something and I do “live grading” as well where I grade diagrams in front of them for instant feedback. I also get their feedback frequently through Google forms #RIHPD

@Namaraledu A5: I think any time you can get students working hands on and collaborating it makes it more fun! Labs and real world connection projects let them do that, as well as see how things are really used outside the classroom #RIHPD

@Namaraledu A3. I like to have the students design their own assessment for a small unit, with an answer key. You really get a sense of their understanding when you read the questions they write. #RIHPD

@Namaraledu A2: I think (formal) assessments make many students nervous because they see them as an obstacle. I try to reframe them by reminding students they know this stuff and it’s their chance to show off. #RIHPD

@Namaraledu A1: Hard to define without saying “assess!” I think of assessment as a chance to either see where students are along the way (formative) or for them to show off their skills and how much they can apply what they’ve learned (summative) #RIHPD
