At SXSW, ASCAP caught up with some of our talented composers. They shared with us what it’s like to write for a film, and what it’s like to experience your work play on the big screen for a crowd.

At this year’s SXSW, Stranger Things co-composer Kyle Dixon spoke to ASCAP and reflected on the experience of Stranger Things starting off as a “small project” to becoming the global phenomenon it is today.

For EJAE, songwriting is more than a craft, it's self expression. That journey awarded EJAE and her co-writers the Oscar for Best Original Song with "Golden." ✨During ASCAP's Women Behind the Music event last year, she opened up about why songwriting will always be her priority.

ASCAP’s own Mark Sonnenblick was honored at the Oscars on Sunday, taking home Best Original Song with his co-writers for “Golden,” performed by EJAE for Kpop Demon Hunters. A well-deserved recognition of his outstanding songwriting. Congratulations, Mark! 🎉

Mosmo, who performed at the SXSW Billboard House, is a new voice reshaping regional Mexican music. He broke out in 2022 as an artist featured on Netflix’s La Firma. Inspired by tumbados but influenced by pop and trap, Mosmo’s carving a path entirely his own.

Singer-songwriter Angela Autumn crafts a raw and powerful blend of folk, country and indie rock, delivered with infectious twang. We caught up with her at South by San Jose in Austin, where she shared her love for making music and being an ASCAP member.

Bear McCreary moderated ASCAP’s panel “How SXSW Film Composers Are Redefining Cinema” Sunday. It celebrated films showcasing at the SXSW TV & Film Festival by ASCAP composers Paul Leonard-Morgan (Pretty Lethal), Marius de Vries (The AI Doc…) and Charles Humenry (Downbeat).
