got drunk with a 23 year old millionaire last weekend and he told me something that rewired my brain
we were talking about how he built his business. expected some complicated answer about systems and strategies.
instead he said:
"I just got really good at one thing and charged a lot for it."
that's it?
"that's it. everyone wants to do 10 things. I did one thing for 3 years straight. now I'm the guy for that thing."
he writes landing pages. that's his whole business.
not websites. not funnels. not email sequences. not ads.
just landing pages.
charges $15K per page. has a 4 month waitlist.
"people come to me because I'm the landing page guy. not the marketing guy. not the copywriter guy. the landing page guy. specificity is the whole game."
I asked how he got started.
"wrote landing pages for free for 6 months. got good. started charging $500. then $1K. then $3K. kept raising prices until people said no. they haven't said no yet."
no courses. no content strategy. no personal brand masterplan.
just: get good at one thing, tell people about it, charge more every few months.
"most people are a 6 out of 10 at five different things. I'm a 10 out of 10 at one thing. that's worth more."
he refused to diversify. turned down opportunities to do email sequences, full websites, consulting.
"every time you say yes to something outside your thing, you dilute what makes you valuable. I'd rather be the best at one thing than decent at ten."
we talked for 3 more hours. every piece of advice came back to the same principle.
one thing. done extremely well. for a long time.
that's the whole playbook.

โก๏ธThe โDoorDash lifestyleโ is an artifact of three massive structural shifts older generations donโt see because they didnโt grow up inside them.
Letโs break the illusion.
1. The marginal cost of money changed for Gen Z
For older adults, spending thirty dollars feels like spending thirty dollars.
For kids today, the psychological cost is closer to:
โthree microtransactions worth of frictionโ
Because their financial environment is built on:
โขinstant digital payments
โขlow-commitment gig incomes
โขparents transferring money fluidly
โขside hustles paid in irregular small bursts
โขstimulus-era normalization of cash flow volatility
Teenagers today often have:
โข$30 now
โข$0 tomorrow
โข$50 on Friday
โข$15 in crypto
โข$70 in Cash App from someone they did homework for
โขa $20 Venmo from grandma
โข$60 from a weekend shift
There is no โbudget.โ
There is flow.
And in a flow economy, a $30 DoorDash order is not a โluxuryโ.
It is just another digital outflow in a stream of constant micro inflows.
2. Consumption is now social currency
Older generations spent money to solve problems.
Gen Z spends money to signal identity, reduce friction, and avoid emotional drag.
DoorDash is not about food.
It is about:
โขeliminating effort
โขeliminating planning
โขeliminating discomfort
โขeliminating logistics
โขeliminating decision fatigue
This generation pays premiums to remove negative psychic load.
Food delivery is an anxiety-management subscription.
And they learned this from:
โขAmazon Prime
โขUber
โขTikTok dopamine tuning
โขfrictionless apps
โขthe collapse of effort-based value signals
Convenience is the default baseline now.
3. The middle class collapsed, but lifestyle costs decoupled from income
This is the part most boomers and Gen X donโt understand.
Kids arenโt behaving like theyโre poor.
Theyโre behaving like people living in a post-middle-class economy where:
โขownership is dead
โขsavings are pointless
โขbuying a home is impossible
โขcollege is a debt sentence
โขinflation destroys the dollar
โขwages do not map to adult milestones
โขupward mobility is gone
So what happens?
They shift to a present-maximization mindset.
If the future is unaffordable anyway,
why not buy the burrito now?
Younger people are not reckless.
They are rational inside a broken incentive system.
The real truth
DoorDash is a symptom.
A society where:
โขfuture stability is gone
โขwages stagnate
โขhousing is unattainable
โขattention is fragmented
โขconvenience is normalized
โขfriction feels archaic
โขeverything is mediated digitally
โฆwill produce kids who treat $30 like a tap on a screen, not a financial decision.
Theyโre not โfunding a lifestyle.โ
Theyโre surviving inside the economy they were handed.
