Had a productive call today with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, @MIshaqDar50, to discuss the evolving situation in the Middle East. He noted progress in ceasefire negotiations. Canada supports these efforts and encourages continued dialogue, along with the protection of civilian life and infrastructure. I thanked Pakistan for its role in advancing discussions at a critical time. Canada values its relationship with Pakistan, and we agreed to remain in close contact on shared priorities including economic cooperation and people-to-people ties.

Canada is not finished. It is being repositioned. In a world defined by chaos, conflict, supply chain shocks, energy insecurity, and a global fight for talent, Canada has a real chance to matter more than ever.

In Canmore today visiting my father & am reminded how Alberta has some of the most majestic mountainscapes on earth. They look so awesome with fresh snow. I was so lucky to grow up in Banff. An independent Alberta will have a thriving tourist industry.

For years several Ontario & BC community colleges ran a massive scam to monetize student visas. In broad daylight. The federal government did its part by giving full time work permits (!) even to foreign “students” enrolled at dodgy diploma mills. Some provinces allowed publicly funded community colleges to contract out programs, and therefore foreign students, to the same private diploma mills. The consequence: hundreds of thousands of families overseas mortgaged farms, houses and business to pay the recruitment agencies to get their kids a “ticket to Canada” through this scam. They were assured by the recruiters and overseas immigration consultants that the study / work permit combo would guarantee them permanent residency, and with it the ability to sponsor their families. And if that didn’t work out? Don’t worry, just make an asylum claim, and Canada will never get around to removing you. In the meantime, you’ll qualify for welfare, basic and supplementary health insurance, publicly subsided housing, open work permits, etc. But for many of these young people, their Canadian dream looked more like a nightmare: jammed into insanely expensive apartments and houses, sleeping in shifts, working bottom end delivery jobs, enrolled in fake or third rate programs. And we all know the broader social consequences this has had: from housing affordability, to declining per capita GDP, to the upheaval in our immigration system. So how is it possible that there have been no consequences, professional, legal, or political, for those responsible? Where did the money go? What bonuses were paid to the presidents of Conestoga College, and others amongst the worst offenders? Are we all supposed to pretend that this didn’t happen? There is no shortage of blame to go around. But the college presidents who betrayed the mission of their institutions, and the public trust, should be the first held to account.

… in case there was any doubt Conestoga College and its student recruiter @ApplyBoard were selling immigration, not education (link: therecord.com/news/waterloo-…).

If Canada follows through with recruiting Chinese soldiers to join their military, then Canada becomes a bigger threat to the Western Hemisphere than Venezuela was.

Pakistan: They check passports first while entering the airport, then by customs, then by anti narcotics, then by airline counter, then Immigeration counter then Immigeration officer, then airline gate and then again before entering the tunnel connecting to plane! FIA official look at you as if he or she seen a human for the first time then look at passport, then stare at you and look at your passport again, then look at your ticket and look at you passport again, then look at you again and look at passport again, this process continues for 3-4 min, and all that continues where Govt is investing $1 Billion in Artificial Intelligence!!

In Pakistan, PMs get shot and hanged, so IK partially losing his eyesight is hardly surprising. What is surprising is the lack of any meaningful protest or PTI ground power which can provide a desperate, almost blind Imran some real leverage. Apart from his family, lawyers and a handful of close supporters, no senior PTI leader is willing to take any risk for Imran's sake. Those settled abroad can tweet more critically but Imran doesn't need tweets, he needs his people on the streets. The streets reveal exactly how powerful and popular he is. But here's the thing, the establishment is known to be untouchable, uncompromising and calculated but what about its civilian partners who provide the veneer of legitimacy? What would happen to them when the tables turn, when their political opponents find it appropriate to treat them exactly how they treated IK?

We just got absolutely rolled in this Canada - China deal. A stark foreign policy failure with domestic economic consequences. The most basic principle in politics and geopolitics is loyalty to friends. And we weren’t just disloyal - we were hostile. So here we are.

Prime Minister Carney must explain how he has gone from saying China was Canada’s 'biggest security threat' before the election to announcing a 'strategic partnership' with Beijing after the election. His agreement will allow 50,000 EVs onto our streets jeopardizing our security and auto jobs. This follows him breaking his promise to 'negotiate a win' and get a deal with the U.S. by last July. Despite giving a billion-dollar taxpayer loan for Beijing to build our ships, there is no guarantee that tariffs on canola and other Canadian goods will be permanently, immediately, or completely eliminated. Meanwhile, Canadian pork farmers still will keep paying the 25% tariff. It’s time for Canadians to have a government that will put our country first and protect our security, our jobs and our sovereignty.
