I love the absolute lack of attention the Father gives the “prodigal” son’s desire to be known as a servant rather than his son in Luke 15:21-22. Zero time spent acknowledging the son as anything other than that— the Father’s child.

True Dallas Cowboys fandom is understanding for the last 4 weeks that we have absolutely no chance of defeating the Bucs in Round 1 of the playoffs (just because we don’t), yet still making all kinds of plans in order to ensure I’m watching the game on Monday. Can’t wait for it!

@ChaseDewey Love 2 Peter 1 on this. We have all things for life and godliness (v.3)… so apply all diligence in them (v. 5-7). Increasing these qualities (or “creating energy”) makes us useful and productive (v. 8), for as long as we practice them we will not stumble (v.10)

Like the child who sees their parent mowing the law & comes out to join with their little play mower, or goes to work on the living room rug with their Little Tikes vacuum— Jesus is honored to see God’s children attempting to be like Him, no matter how “effective” they may be.

It’s good that our involvement is unnecessary, in a sense. If this was dependent on the Disciples surely they would go away hungry. Still, Jesus graciously allows us to participate & practice being like the one we love, & because of that Andrew actually does present the solution!

John‘s inclusion of details about how Jesus involved the Disciples in his ministry has been striking me as I read back through his Gospel. Jesus had the disciples baptizing folks rather than Himself (4:2), and in the feeding of the 5,000 Jesus involved them in problem solving.

Who knows? Maybe our Nicodemuses will have some Josephs right alongside them as well…

Eventually, they did! And actually had the courage to follow while the rest of the disciples fled in fear. This greatly encouraged me to persevere in praying for those who I desire to see grow in Jesus, yet haven’t for whatever reason. It took some time, but Nicodemus believed!
