Remember when President Lincoln ordered that Black American Freedmen receive “40 Acres and a Mule,” and they got stripped of it upon Lincoln’s assassination?

@CutTheCheck_MLK @Chippdadon If Herman Russell was a real nigga like myself Instead of accumulating wealth in HJ Russell & Co i wouldve have channeled profits into community co-ops, worker-owned firms pooled development funds to create a REAL independent autonomous economic state

First, Herman Russell didn't just "accumulate wealth"… he was the silent financier of the Civil Rights Movement. When MLK and other activists needed bond money to get out of jail, Russell’s private profits paid that money. Second, he actually built the real estate you're looking for. He was one of the largest builders of HUD affordable housing in the country, literally creating thousands of units for the working class.

@AsafoBLA4L @Chippdadon H.J. Russell is literally the damn blueprint for how Black firms got a piece of the pie when the city was trying to shut them out. Using the man who built the world’s busiest airport and half the Atl skyline as an example isn't "exposing" anything.

Calling it "structural dependence" ignores how the industry actually works. 🤡 H.J. Russell didn't just wait for handouts…. he built the literal infrastructure of the city by out-competing firms that had a 100-year head start. Every major construction empire… no matter the race, scales through massive contracts. That’s not "dependence," that's capturing the market.

@CutTheCheck_MLK @Chippdadon I’m glad you brought up Herman Russell to because he’s the perfect example of how We remain structurally dependent on outside corporate investment which I’ve been critiquing this whole time HJ Russell & Co built its empire primarily through contracts with large corporations

The idea that "Black Elite" provide zero jobs in Atlanta is just factually incorrect. Atlanta has the highest share of Black-owned businesses in the country. You can be mad at the wealth gap… that's a real systemic issue…. but claiming there’s "no real wealth" or "zero jobs" from Black leadership ignores the actual infrastructure of the city.

That’s white supremacy at play in the market artificially lowering the home values of parts of Atlanta where Blacks purchased homes in. The institutional investors are just the new wave of the same old gatekeeping. That’s due to no fault of our own. Atlanta has the highest Black homeownership rate.

@CutTheCheck_MLK @Chippdadon Yet Black households in Atlanta continue to be dramatically lower then white Americans Institutional investment homes continue to buy homes making it even more dramatically harder for African Americans to buy home and more common to rent homes so where is the Black real estate ?

There’s a difference between systemic wealth equality and creating a Black middle class. Maynard didn't fix capitalism, but he did jumpstart the Black contracting industry and the professional class that literally didn't exist before him. Keep in mind, all of this is happening in a system of economic white supremacy. those specific policies were the first time the city stopped cutting checks ONLY to white businesses. Imagine what the wealth gap would have been if Maynard didn’t make the strides he made.

It’s not xenophobia. It’s making you all own your ethnicity/lineage/nationality in GoodTimes AND BadTimes. When you’re winning, you’re Somalian, Haitian, Jamaican, Ethiopian Nigerian, Ghanaian ect. But when you’re acting in ways that bring shame, you’re “Black”… and we have to be “Black” win-lose-draw. So if you’re going to delineate yourself into specific ethnicity when you’re being recognized for positive acts, then stay that way when you’re on your bullshit as well.

@CutTheCheck_MLK @Chippdadon Forced the hand??? My guy why are you trying this political hero narrative Black political leaders like Maynard Jackson had “leverage” but the project itself depended on corporate and developer willingness to invest it’s not a political grassroot achievement it’s a compromise

Tax breaks and cheap labor exists in every SE city from Birmingham to Charlotte, but those cities didn’t become global hubs…. Atlanta did because of the the Black brain trust here. Corporations didnt just come for the low wages, they came for the elite talent pipeline coming out of the AUC. You can't run a Fortune 500 on tax breaks alone.. you need the lawyers, engineers, and creatives that Atlanta produced. Since you brought up Maynard Jackson, perfect, he literally forced those companies to share the capital. it was a power play that built Black construction and real estate.

You’re looking at the logos on the buildings, but ignoring who owns the land they’re sitting on and the firms that built em. Herman Russell didn't just get a job from Corporate America… he built the skyline and the world’s busiest airport. That’s billions in generational capital right there. Plus, we have the highest density of Black owned businesses in the country. The Fortune 500s moved here because Black leadership and the AUC created the talent pool and the swag factor they wanted to buy into.

Corporations follow the cool. Black music, film, and tech entrepreneurs in ATL created a global brand that drove the real estate boom you're seeing now. Corporate America didn't give Atlanta anything… they invested here because Black leadership and culture made it profitable. Respect the architects. What did you guys build in your homeland?

@AsafoBLA4L @Chippdadon Morehouse/Spelman/Clark produced the talent that made Atlanta a "Black Mecca," which is exactly why those corporations moved there in the first place… to tap into that Black excellence. Those corporations weren’t here in the 80s. They go where the motion is.

Before Maynard, Black businesses got less than 1% of city contracts. He kicked the door open, mandated joint ventures for us, and grew the Black middle class from the ground up. You don't get the busiest airport in the world or the "Black Mecca" title without that leverage. It’s because of that foundation that ATL stays the blueprint for Black economic and cultural power, even in 2026 having to survive being co-opted by the DNC. Put some respect on the work. It brought your parents here.
