Everyone needs to watch this. A Seattle cop mocks the death of a woman killed by a speeding patrol car and says she "had limited value." Her name was Jaahnavi Kandula. She was a 23-year-old grad student raised by a single mother. Absolutely disgusting.

Video: A Seattle Police Officer hit & killed a woman as he sped 40 MPH over the speed limit. Another officer, in response to the killing, says: “She was 26 anyway, she had limited value.” The culture of policing in this country is violent & repulsive.

This was Jaahnavi Kandula, 23. She was a masters student in Seattle supporting a single mother in India. In January, she was killed by a police cruiser going 50 MPH through an intersection. Hours later, the VP of the police union was laughing about her death on a phone call.

After a Seattle police officer struck and killed a woman in a crosswalk, the police union's VP called the union president. He laughed about the crash, said the woman's life had "limited value," and said, "Yeah, just write a check." @stimesmcarter seattletimes.com/seattle-news/l…

Seattle Police officer Daniel Auderer cackled in response to the death of Jaanhavi Kandula, a young Indian exchange student, after she was run over by a police vehicle. And he said her life "had limited value." Working people need to demand an independent, public investigation into this outrage.  But it's not surprising that, according to @dubseatv, Auderer has been the subject of 18 investigations, not one of them having resulted in him being fired, let alone facing legal consequences. He's far from an exception in police departments nationwide — under both Democrats & Republicans — which use excessive force with impunity, especially against the poor, those facing mental health challenges, women, and marginalized communities.  The so-called Office of Professional Accountability has singularly failed to hold Seattle Police accountable — cops overseeing cops will never work.  We need independently elected community oversight with full powers over the police. But to win this, working people will need to organize independently of the Democratic Party.

If only Seattle were actually the radical communist stronghold that every Fox News grandpa imagines it to be. The mainstream of Seattle of politics is a milquetoast “socially liberal, fiscally conservative” centrism servile to real estate, tourism and business generally.

The Supreme Court just killed your student debt relief, and the billionaires behind the case want you to think the fight is over. But it's not. Biden can still cancel student loans under the Higher Education Act. He could act right now.

Anyone who tries to sell you on IDR (Income Driven Repayment) is probably not your friend. The program does not work. It has failed over and over and over again. This is why we need broad-scale student debt relief.

It’s not enough that citizens who relied on the promise of student loan forgiveness will not be referred to credit agencies. POTUS must invoke HEA to pause interest & collections until the debt is forgiven. Let the other side sue. Stand with students. NO interest, NO collection.
