In a match, players spend more time without the ball than with the ball. It’s vital young players learn what to do off the ball. Spending most of your session on ‘individual ball mastery’ means they’ve lost out on so much opportunity to learn the actual game of football.

Truth is, the best form of support SOME parents could give would be to simply wait in the car till the game is over

Kids you coach now will thank you in the future for making them a better player. They won’t thank you for prioritising winning over their development.

Children do not learn best from being shouted at, from being criticised or from being told about their mistakes. They learn best from encouragement, guidance and praise.

Mastering the ball doesn’t mean they’ve also mastered the game

If your child is dribbling around cones at their training, they aren’t getting better at football. They’re getting better at dribbling around cones.

Easy way to help your child’s football development: - Grab a ball - Round up their their mates - Take them to park - Sit back - Let them play Repeat as much as possible ⚽️

Fun is a great reason for children to play football. It’s also a really good way to help them get good at football. Whether a parent or coach - ask yourself what you’re doing to make sure your players/children have fun?

One of my favorite moments from our (@basketse) Super Clinic was when Joe Boylan (Director of Player Development, Minnesota Timberwolves) was asked about the number of repetitions versus representativeness. "Rather 30 shots in context than 1000 undefended shots."
