Well, where do I start… A huge, heartfelt thanks to everyone for their kind words over the last 24 hours or so. So much love and positivity around at the track last night after a truly incredible 2026 Running of the Bulls meeting @BirchipHarness. This pie in the sky idea was put on paper in the weeks after the 2025 meeting and then backed without question by the legends at the club. The job was then to secure a sponsor and it wasn’t long before president Brad Sharp was on the phone with news that Cargill Cares was on board with an incredible financial contribution. Then we could get serious. Hours and hours of work shaping the race conditions, securing slot holders, confirming horses and promoting the concept through our amazing media partners set the platform. Then it was over to the club to deliver on its promise that it would nail the event. And, of course, that was never in doubt. We got the perfect field with storylines aplenty, a ripper race with a great call and a stunning lowly-rated winner that will have everyone thinking outside the square in 2027. It was everything we hoped for and more. A huge personal thanks to my great mate @darrenc59 for his help in plotting this race and making Saturday night’s Cacutta a massive success, the small but dedicated team at HRV for bringing every aspect of this to life and the brilliant committee and volunteers at Birchip, led by Sharpy, Normy Hogan and Brendan Beasley. I dearly love this sport and its people, and I’m so proud of what we all achieved together at this special little track in the Mallee. What a bloody day!
