The past fortnight has also seen our Carnegie shadowing begin once again, with nearly 20 Year 8s and 9s signing up this year and eagerly starting the process of reading the full shortlist by mid-June. It will be fascinating to see which emerges as Hardenhuish's 2026 favourite!

Just a couple of days to go in what has been a short but packed term 4. Our recent Scholastic Book Fair was another wonderful success with takings of £1310. This will mean over £700 worth of new books for our library in the months ahead. Thankyou for your great support as always!

It's that time of year! Our Scholastic Book Fair is under way, with hundreds of wonderful titles available along with a bumper selection of stationery and those ever-popular hand pointers! Plenty of bargains and your £1 World Book Day tokens can be used right through to Monday.

A wide range of literature has certainly been on show, from the Enormous Crocodile, Mr Men and Matilda to Jurassic Park and Shane Warne's autobiography!

World Book Day at Hardenhuish was mainly focussed this year on celebrating books you have enjoyed as a child. From discussions in English lessons to a brilliant array of staff costumes around the site, it has been another wonderful celebration of all things literary.

It has already been a brilliantly busy start to term 4, with over 250 loans in the lead-up to World Book Day today. Book Group this term are looking at titles showcasing empowerment and the excitement is growing for our annual Scholastic Book Fair arriving on Tuesday.

Over 800 books borrowed in term 3 and these are the top 10 - this time it's 'The Inheritance Games' that leaps to the top spot. As always a good variety of novels and different genres on show.

The school turned 'Red for Shayne' today at the end of a tough couple of weeks and our library challenge was to find as many red covers as possible. With Valentine's Day tomorrow, we also ran our annual 'Blind Date with a Book' promotion and all 30 were eagerly grabbed at break

Two weeks already into the new term: new books aplenty, Book Group meetings, primary liaison and reading coaching back up and running, and the start of our Scholars tuition sessions as Hardenhuishers become part of the Brilliant Club!

A very busy last week of term draws to a close. Firstly we had another successful staff event on Wednesday to celebrate 50 years of Hardenhuish - a Christmas candlelit tour of the House and another opportunity to view a range of archive documents from the past five decades.

So that's it for 2025 at Hardenhuish and the sun sets on our big year of 50th anniversary celebrations. Wishing everyone a very Happy Christmas and a good start to 2026 - see you in January!

On the day the festive chart is announced, our top 10 most borrowed at Christmas 2025 sees a remarkable rise to the top for the new graphic novel version of Lord Of The Flies, beating the likes of Heartstopper and several very popular murder mysteries.

Today saw us say farewell to two Hardenhuish legends: Mrs Todd after 19 years as pastoral manager, and Maureen Messenger after an incredible 54 years as dinner lady/MDSA at Hardenhuish and the girls school beforehand. Very best wishes to both for the future. The end of an era.

Hardenhuish Christmas Fayre Book Stall - grab yourselves a festive bargain for 50p or £1 in E1, with plenty of children's and adult fiction available along with an incredible variety of factual books as well! As always some might be easier to sell than others!!

Congratulations also to 'Cream Cheese' who won the A-Z showcase slam - a brilliant display on his own after two team-mates had to drop out. It was a stunning evening, particularly the heats which we felt were the highest standard we had seen in the 14 years of the event 👏

Last night saw our 14th Poetry Slam Finals Evening: a superb evening of performance and writing from our talented Year 7s. Congratulations to 'The Special Ones' who triumphed in the main slam event with two funny and engaging rap battles that had the audience and judges hooked.
