In North Texas many gardeners have two gardens each year – from spring through summer, and then there is the one planted in summer that can go gangbusters into the fall until the first freeze. The length of our daylight has a lot to do with why we have such a long growing season. Those who live in more northerly latitudes have daylight late into the summer evenings that we don't get in North Texas, but the tradeoff is that in North Texas we have more light earlier in the spring and don't lose as much daylight as the year progresses, resulting in a longer growing season here. These illustrations show the length of daylight at the Summer Solstice compared to the Winter Solstice in December.

The garden is growing and you have a lot of questions how to keep it alive with heat, insects, and fungal diseases that might come along. Now is a great time to register to take Howard's Natural Organic Online Gardening and Landscaping Course. It comes with a handy study booklet to print and keep. Once you've taken the class you can refer back to it at any time. buff.ly/K4xQJEH
