I commend the immense amount of effort it takes to do these kinds of projects but homogenizing Mother 1 to be more like its sequel (or like Mother 3) flattens a lot of its stylistic differences

@Marionete04 as a result. i always describe it as like, BotW is more of a Team Ico style experience within an open Hyrule, whereas TotK felt to me more like an evolution of the traditional Zelda fare within that established Hyrule.

You'll notice that not a single combo is ever used. It's all special moves one after the other in rapid succession.

The Norse saga combat is so much better than the Greek games I'm shocked it's even debate material. The gameplay to cutscenes ratio is also overwhelmingly in favor of the last two games yet it's them that get labeled "movies".

@animejumpz i tried a few years ago, and i've been considering it again, but after 60ish hours i got locked in a boss battle through some apparently pretty common emulation issues. i really wanna see it through but i don't want to dump that much time in for potentially the same results

Another ignorant example of people not realizing FFXVI was inspired by way more than just GoT…
There was no “bait and switch” if you played any of the pixel games specifically, even FFT, it becomes very obvious that CS3 were not very subtle with going back to the roots of FF narratively and in setting.
I mean god damn, thematically 16 does something brilliant, being this inverse of what we’ve come to know about the legacy of the crystals the franchise introduced us to.

FF16 was such a bait-and-switch. We all thought it was returning to classic FF roots with the more pure-medieval setting, until the game came out and it turned out to be a cynical attempt to cash in on Game of Thrones' popularity, but had come out long after GoT had shot itself in the foot and people had started to hate it. Still not the worst bait-and-switch the franchise ever pulled. That was FF7 Remake.
