If you read only the New Testament and disregard the Old Testament, you’re not getting the full picture of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

@sola_chad Gen 6:5. Not a universal statement of every single person for all time, but the general state of humans at the time before the Flood. Can't be universal even in its day because Gen 6:9, "noah was righteous" & God recognises his righteousness in 7:1. So Beardo is interpreting.

@bbathgate3510 I can see that for sure. I can also see the possibility of aiming at a Jewish audience. However, I think this is a universal truth. Gentiles show faith through works also. Thanks for your patient responses.

@Inwardman3Ne I think James's emphasis on showing faith through works would resonate more with his Jewish/Israelite audience and make more sense coming from someone whose ministry was more focused on those believers than it was on Gentile believers.

Paul and James aren't in opposition to each other. They are speaking to two different audiences. Paul is speaking to Gentile believers. James is speaking to Jewish/Israelite believers.

Well, I know Jewish believers were intent on keeping the Law, as revealed through their Messiah, and the Jerusalem council didn't place a requirement on Gentiles to become Jews. In turn, Jews were to remain Jews, not become Gentiles. So I do think there were different behavior expectations.

@StarryBlueWater @RQ_Spartan Agreed. Do you think God literally dwelt amongst men? As in left heaven and walked amongst "us". I see it as, everything that the law and prophets ( and even the apostles), saw of God is within a confined area. His wisdom, authority and power. For God dwells in heaven.

You can't understand the New Testament if you don't first understand the Old Testament. You will end up twisting verses and regurgitating man made church doctrine over and over.

@StarryBlueWater @RQ_Spartan What's the purpose of the earthly temple? And yes, the law teaches us what is a temple, or tent or place where the Father and even a person where God has his name placed upon it/him.

@Inwardman3Ne @RQ_Spartan Certainly! When you're raised in the church, it's so hard to read Hebrews without that lens. But once I learned the true purpose of the earthly Temple, Hebrews became much clearer.
