Thousands of government releases, speeches and documents were wiped from the official Beehive website archive for over 12 hours, a day before the Budget is released. More than 28,110 releases, more than 3000 speeches and all Ministerial diaries were gone.
A journalist asked me to write an opinion piece about a political event today. It's a tough day for the person involved & enough said about that. If I was to say anything it would be about the importance of modern media policy settings right here, right now.
Last week in Brussels, we brought together over 20 IRM researchers from across @opengovpart. We learnt about digital governance issues relating to artificial intelligence & mis/disinformation, and enjoyed engaging conversations while exploring the updated IRM methodology.
In opposition, National called for much tougher transparency around lobbying. In govt, so far it is making things *less* transparent. And its draft code of conduct for lobbyists, inherited from Labour, appears toothless. rnz.co.nz/news/in-depth/…
Spoke to David Farrar, says this is the biggest swing since the emergence of the two-party system in 1938, bigger than the post-Ruthanasia swing of 1993. Fair to say polls didn't pick up just how unpopular govt. had become.

Immediate take: the government's anti-poverty strategy has shifted from directly boosting incomes (cash transfers) to in-kind measures (making things free, which effectively boosts incomes).
