It seemed as if they had learned from their mistakes of Picard S1-S2. Picard S3 was better in every metric. SNW had potential, and it looked like they were getting back on track after Disco failure. But instead they doubled down on Disco with SFA. They knew this was going to flop, and they don't care, because they don't think we'll be alive much longer, or the dominant demographics.

Alex Kurtzman confirmed that Paul Giamatti will not be appearing in season 2 of Starfleet Academy. “No, not in season 2. There’s nothing we want more than to bring Paul back, and there’s nothing Paul wants more than to come back, so we are going to figure that out in season 3.”

@SynapticAxon @Moonsausage3 @fandompulse I think novelty is probably a big part of it, but there's also an element of Picard and SNW being way less accessible to new viewers bc they require context from TNG, Discovery, TOS, etc

@SynapticAxon @Moonsausage3 @fandompulse There's only limited evidence bc the full numbers of the latest episodes haven't been released yet. But for all the episodes they released numbers of so far, it did ~60% better than other modern Trek shows (just clarifying that I do not think it's better than SNW S3 or Picard S3)

Please understand that I'm not defending it as a flawless work of fiction, but for some reason (likely drawing in a younger audience), it seems to be performing better than other modern Trek shows

@LPOTHC @Moonsausage3 @fandompulse Oh sure, I tuned in for a few episodes before I gave up on it. I went back to maybe give it another chance, and reading the synopsis of the new episodes, went back to Voyager and TNG. How many views of the remaining episodes? Sinking like a rock, isn't it?

@SynapticAxon @Moonsausage3 @fandompulse I understand that you're frustrated with the writing, but whether we like it or not, it did do significantly better than SNW S3 and Picard S3 ratings-wise. It got ~2.1M viewers while SNW and Picard got ~1.3M viewers each. I guess it must draw in a younger crowd or something.

@LPOTHC @Moonsausage3 @fandompulse What a joke. SNW has great aesthetics but is still riddled with singing Klingons and woke absurdities. I highly doubt Academy beats SNW in any ratings, other than for drive-by screenshots of how bad it is. If there is a season 2, it will be indistinguishable from zero viewers.

@SynapticAxon @Moonsausage3 @fandompulse I saw multiple articles saying it had way better ratings than SNW S03 (which is the current benchmark for Trek ig). Not saying Starfleet Academy was universally loved or a smashing hit, but if you compare it to SNW's ratings, it did just well enough to justify a second season.

@LPOTHC @Moonsausage3 @fandompulse Show the ratings? It's not even a top tile on the Paramount channel. Voyager, DS9, TNG all outperforming it by a country mile.

@Moonsausage3 @fandompulse I'm not saying it does, and the fan reception was definitely mixed to bad, but greenlighting two seasons has sort of become a norm for this type of show (even the revival of The Librarians did that, and as far as ratings go, it did considerably worse than Starfleet Academy)

@Moonsausage3 @fandompulse It might've been badly-received by many, but ratings-wise it did well enough for a season 2. They filmed it like this bc it's cheaper to do two seasons back-to-back than to film them one at a time. This has become increasingly normal, Strange New Worlds and Doctor Who did it too.

@fandompulse The main reason they have a S2 is that they filmed it before releasing S1. Had they waited I doubt it would have gotten a S2...

@ChibaCity_Blues @jkristineh @ShalkaFanNo1 I'm pretty sure there is a known copy of Tenth Planet 4 that was used by Blue Peter and then lost (but it has to exist somewhere, it's just a matter of finding it before it turns into vinegar)

But somehow ending up with 3 Daleks Masterplan episodes back to back would be unprecedented! Really I’m just so happy that there are still more episodes known to exist after a find this huge!

RIP to all the Marco Polo fans though. They’ll find one of it’s seven episodes one of these days I swear 😭

If you told me in 2022 that we'd have two consecutive Doctors and 4+ years without full Dalek episodes and the next Dalek story to air would be The Daleks' Master Plan, I would've called you insane. Funny how things work out, huh

These are literally the best episodes they could've found! I've always found it best when missing episodes have the first few parts, bc by the time you get to the loose cannon ones, you're already inside the story. Marco Polo next 🙏

There are still people insisting this kid isn’t the Master. Chibnall himself confirmed he is the Master, when the writer literally says it, who are you to argue? And the Doctor’s first friend has always been the Master, in every universe. Deal with it #DoctorWho

I've just finished watching #StarfleetAcademy episode 4 ("Vox in Excelso") and I absolutely loved it, from beginning to end. Very well crafted, on all levels. If you are still on the fence about this show, go watch this episode! And I keep hearing even better things about next week's episode. :-)
