The term “starting a family” is problematic. Family is when two or more otherwise unrelated people choose each other. A reminder that families without children are no less of a family than those with. #childfree #childfreebychoice

Finally what about people being intentionally #childfree? This is just people 40+. That rate has barely changed in the last five decades. Except among the nones. It was 20% in the 1970s. Rose to nearly 30% in the 2000s. But, has dropped to 20% in the most recent data.

I been telling y’all that motherhood in a patriarchal capitalist world is a trap. Many studies have demonstrated that working women are subject to a “motherhood penalty” either during pregnancy or after they give birth. Father’s lives remain relatively unscathed. #ChildFree
