News Release: Lansing Post Troopers Investigate Assault on Amtrak Train Bellevue Township, Eaton County — On Sunday, March 8, at approximately 10:40 p.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police Lansing Post responded to a stopped Amtrak train on railroad tracks near Sand Rd. after employees contacted 911 to report a combative passenger who had assaulted two train employees. The suspect, a 32-year-old male from DeWitt, appeared to be intoxicated and was complaining about the train being delayed. The suspect then began running up and down the train, causing concern among passengers who feared for their safety. Two Amtrak employees made contact with the suspect in an attempt to calm him down. During the interaction, the suspect became increasingly combative. Employees reported the suspect was out of control and yelling at other passengers. News Release: Brighton Post Troopers Investigate Single-Vehicle Crash with Serious Injury Northfield Township, Washtenaw County: Troopers from the Brighton Post responded to a single-vehicle crash on southbound US-23 near Barker Road involving a box truck. The preliminary investigation indicates a 2020 Hino Carry-All box truck was traveling southbound on the US-23 expressway when it lost its right front wheel. The mechanical failure caused the driver, a 25-year-old male from Long Island City, New York, to lose control of the vehicle. The truck left the roadway and entered the right-side ditch, where it rolled over multiple times. The vehicle sustained heavy damage during the crash and lost its cargo, which consisted of household goods being transported to a residence. The driver sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to the University of Michigan Hospital, where he is currently listed in critically stable condition. A passenger, a 33-year-old male from Paterson, New Jersey, was also transported to the University of Michigan Hospital with minor injuries. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash. Neither the driver nor the passenger was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The investigation remains ongoing. Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Northfield Township Police Department, Northfield Township Fire Department, Huron Valley Ambulance, and Corrigan’s Towing. The Michigan State Police remind motorists to take a few extra seconds to buckle their seat belt—it could mean the difference between life and death.

We Will Never Forget. In memory of our fallen trooper who made the ultimate sacrifice on this day in 1943: Tpr. Ralph L. Broullire June 26, 1914 - March 16, 1943 Tpr. Ralph L. Broullire drowned in Saginaw Bay while trying to rescue two boys from an ice flow. In the evening of March 16, 1943, the two young men became stranded on an ice flow that had been pushed offshore by 55 mile per hour winds. Trooper Broullire and two other men set out in a boat in an attempt to reach the boys. Another boat also started out, but was turned back by high winds and waves. Signals received from flashlights on the ice flow indicated that Trooper Broullire and his companions had reached the boys. This was the last contact with the men. The icy waters of the bay claimed the life of Trooper Broullire and the four others. Storms and high winds seriously hampered the search for the victims. The body of Trooper Broullire was recovered on April 18, 1943. Trooper Broullire was the 14th MSP officer to die in the line of duty.
