While these kids are out making a difference, one lawn at a time, it’s just as important that they take care of themselves too.
Hydration is key.
When you’re out mowing in the summer heat, your body is working hard. Sweating, pushing equipment, being out in the sun, it all adds up. Taking a moment like this to grab some water or a sports drink isn’t just a break… it’s necessary.
And here’s something I always recommend to parents and kids in the 50 Yard Challenge:
If it’s too hot outside… wait.
There’s nothing wrong with letting the sun go down a bit and tackling that lawn later in the afternoon or evening. The mission is important, but safety always comes first.
A few quick tips:
• Stay hydrated before, during, and after mowing
• Take breaks when needed
• Wear light-colored clothing
• Use sunscreen when you can
• Listen to your body—if you feel overheated, stop and rest
We want these young men and women not only making a difference… but doing it safely and smart.
Because this isn’t just about completing 50 lawns… it’s about building habits that will last a lifetime.
