What an incredibly poignant scene this is: Liverpool’s players stood still, looking up at the away end and clapping along as Diogo Jota’s name is sung. It’s been like this since the final whistle.

Very sorry to hear this. Steve was a brilliant journalist - a tough, gruff Northerner with a heart of gold, great sense of humour & superb instinct for what makes a good story. Had a lot of laughs with him in the Mirror newsroom, and always trusted his judgement. RIP.
