@thejoshl Idk about this take. The handheld pov style heightens the tension. It’s a survival film. Would filming it any other way make it any better? That’s like saying Slawomir Idziak should’ve shot Black Hawk Down like he shot Three Colours Blue. Different genres and sensibilities.
the last of us pilot is really good if you’re measuring it by how silly it feels to watch a russian arthouse cinematographer forced to recreate the exact compositions and camera movements of the opening cutscene of the game
@JosephKahn@Noahpinion I think you mean big studio movies. None of the directors of Passing, Last Black Man in SF and Blindspotting were black (Rebecca Hall, Joe Talbot, Carlos López Estrada).
Here’s a timeline of all the allegations made against #Amsterdam director David O. Russell throughout the course of his career. @jenniferzhann: vult.re/3y0JV40
@JosephKahn I agree! It has everything to do with the prez and nothing to do with the war, chip shortage, and inherently cyclical nature of the market.
What are some good, recent — within the last 5 years – examples of low budget movies with excellent, lifelike color correction? Kind of a documentary vibe but lush looking, with light that looks like what the eye might actually see?
The wreckage of polar explorer Ernest Shackleton's ship ‘Endurance,’ which was crushed by Antarctic ice and sank some 10,000 feet to the ocean floor more than a century ago, has been found reut.rs/3tIhfd3
@kylebuchanan Great, his films are very naturalistic and contain an essence that is unique to Japan, moving to Hollywood would kill that IMO. Directors like Bong and Park Chan-wook could do it bc their films always fit into the Hollywood mold.
@SergeyKaryakin Sergey: My reality is completely confined to a couple pictures, stories, and my personal experience. I think pictures of a couple Ukranians is representative of a country of 44 million people. I am not very smart :(.
@thestrongchess@chesscom I'm at a similar rating, I feel chess com players are a lot stronger than lichess for the same rating (even over 2300 imo), what do you think?
@chess24com Maybe he’s trying to enact a self-fulfilling prophecy, de-motivate all the other players since they know they won’t get to play him and motivate Firouzja even more.
Carlsen announces that his match against Nepomniachtchi likely was his last, unless Firouzja wins the Candidates: "It’s been clear to me for most of the year that this World Championship should be the last. It doesn’t mean as much anymore as it once did." chess24.com/en/read/news/c…
