@MattForemanDev For game servers OVH has higher up front cost but that's because it comes with unmetered 1Gbit/s. High performance and predictable monthly bill (and probably cheaper once you factor in bandwidth). DDOS protection. It's a great offering.

State of the Dungeonpunk, 2024 Dear Punks, This year was the year Dungeonpunk really began it's journey. The website and mailing list are ready to go. The back-end services for connecting players to servers are "good enough for now". There was a lot of time spent prototyping server architecture. I've eliminated several tools from the technology stack and learned some others. I'm moving forward with Unity, Mirror. I've replaced Playfab with Docker, OVHcloud and a host of hand written scripts for deployments. Character controllers are under development. 2025 is going to be an exciting year. Be free! @benz145 It's not overly difficult but it definitely takes nuance to get it feeling right. Maybe some devs don't fine tune. In my game @VELOCIBLASTER I'm doing projectiles with travel time (instead of instant hitscan) so the tracer *is* the bullet. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

Q for VR devs: are good bullet tracers hard to do well? They're critical for the feeling of any shooting game, but I often see 3 main issues: too slow, wrong length, not bright. Is this just missing attention to detail or is there something that makes it extra challenging?

@cixliv It's also not fair for you to say that I don't care or that I'm pretending. If you knew me better, you'd know that I've spent time creating VR/immersive/interactive experiences centered around understanding social issues. I do care. And it's not about me.

Tomorrow I’m voting for the orange man. I have been a hard blue voter my entire adult life (18 years) but I’m over it. “Progressive” policies destroyed SF (and California proper) and I refuse to see it destroy the entire US. I don’t even really like Trump, he reminds me of an asshole boss that knocks up hookers while on a coke binge on Saturday, and then pretends to be a good Catholic on Sunday. I strongly disagree with Republicans on abortion rights, and I find their adversarial position to gay rights and (legal) immigrants extremely misguided. The smartest people I know are immigrants and gay. But also, real talk. I’m so tired of the leftist position that I have to apologize every waking day for being a white dude. As if I wake up every day and read mein kampf with my morning coffee. How are you going to talk crap about me for 10 straight years and I still vote for you? Seriously? Kiss my ass. Go go orange man.

@benz145 Same here. I still use this platform because other VR people are active on here, but I find myself using the other platform more often as people continue to migrate there.

All the political rage bait garage on this platform is making me come back to it less and less. Same thing happened with Facebook during the 2016 election when they amplified high engagement posts even if they were toxic; eventually a lot of young people just said “being here is just upsetting,” and they fled.

@MattForemanDev You know Matt, as a rule of thumb. when you quote something that someone said. Like in this case say "oppression". You are indicating that a person said that. I did not in fact say that word, anywhere, ever in this thread or debate.

@cixliv Dude. The degree of alienation/inequity faced by minorities is orders of magnitude greater than the "oppression" white men have to face. If you think the big problem is progressives forcing white men to apologize, you are severely misguided. No one is forcing you to apologize.

@cixliv While he has guided and funded technological advancements with his massive wealth, he is far more of an investor and businessman than he is an inventor. Regardless, others' awful behavior does not justify Elon's. And his massive social influence shouldn't be handwaved away.

@MattForemanDev I’m sure a lot of inventors in the past were terrible people, I mean look at the stories of Edison. Guy was a psycho.

A good litmus test for me is how much people complain about Elon Musk. Call him “loser”, “stupid” etc. While he says some unhinged stuff, gotta respect the hustle.
