A few weeks ago we onboarded our first European beta tester. He's German. Today Meridian Drive ships in 6 languages. A short thread on what it actually takes to localise a nav app.

Two other fixes in the same release: • Android Auto map now renders on aftermarket head units (Atoto, Carlinkit, etc.) • Password reset email links now open the app properly Beta's open across UK, IRE, AUS, NZ — currently expanding to EU: meridianapp.co.uk

Fix: pull the smoothing into a shared helper, use it for both the local display AND every broadcast site (convoy presence, live-share viewer, CarPlay/AA member dots, trip stats). 5 files. Made it structurally impossible to drift again. Shipped today as v1.2.2.

A beta tester told us his speedometer read 35 mph while his friends in the same convoy watched him doing 51. This is the bug story.

@ChislonChis Hi Richard, Thank you for the feedback! We will be looking to move into the HUD systems a little further down the line. When you say it's not smooth do you mean the user movement on the map? If you pop me a DM with a little in-depth detail, we can investigate and fix. Dylan -

@MeridianDrive_ it doesn't work on Mazda heads up display. Shows nothing, and it's really not very smooth on my android auto connected via my Samsung s25 ultra, but other than that it worked well

Google Maps wants to know where you go. Apple Maps doesn't really care. Waze sells where you went. Meridian deletes where you went 24 hours after your trip ends. Because we charge for the app, not for your data.

Every sat nav app on the market assumes you drive alone. Group road trips, motorbike rideouts, car meets, family caravan trips — none of them are solved by Google or Apple Maps. You're stuck with WhatsApp + a "designated lead car" and the ritual of losing each other at every junction. Meridian does it better.
