Closing out conference play next week against Syracuse. Cuse are the team we've played the most in the CSBA(8-1) but this will be the first time we play them with the new coach at the helm!
Feels a bit strange!
Looking forward to our reunion with Jacob Black this week.
Jacob spent 3 seasons as a Cane and was a real Swiss army knife type of player. One day he would lead the scoring then the next we would lock down the best player the opposition had!
Always a Cane!
POTG card for our Sophmore Seymour Butts. Slight typo on the points but nothing our art depart couldn't fix up, as much as Butts would have liked to have had 26.
Seymour Butts was huge for us on both ends vs Louisville taking home POTG honors. Putting up 16 points on 6-10 shooting and adding 2 steals and a block.
Below was one of our favourites from the game as he hit the smooth fadeaway to extend our lead in crunch time.
Elsewhere in the ACC Duke beat Wake Forest 93-76, with ex-Cane Jacob Black once again leading the way, and UNC beat Syracuse 81-57 as the Orange struggled to get their offense going.
All three of us, UNC and Duke now move to 5-1 on the season.
Louisville really made us work for it today!
They were hot from deep, shooting 9/15 from 3 and it took us winning in pretty much every other category to get this one done!
Congrats to Jacob Black. A prior Cane who nabbed a POTG with his dominant performance against Syracuse. He posted 24/5/1/1/1 as he was too much for the Orange.
Congrats to our POTG vs Wake. CDC had a great night as he used his size to generate pressure at the rim and was rewarded by his teammates for being a willing runner in transition.
An interesting week in the ACC as Louisville upset UNC and Duke moved to 2-0 with a win over Cuse, leaving 4 teams clumped up at 1-1.
We head to Louisville next week to take on Jafari Kieta and the surging Cardinals!
Unfortunately, we had our first loss of the season today. Congrats to UNC on the win! Hopefully we get to see you again in the tournament so we have a chance to avenge ourselves.
Next up in our stars of the past we want to honour is Bernard Gustafson. Gus was a Cane for two seasons and while he had a good junior season with us it was his senior year that he's remembered for where he averaged 20.9 ppg on 77.87% TS on his way to POTY
Gregg Davidson spent two season as a Cane and still holds the school record of most made 3s in a game with 5 against Clemson in our season 4 ACC title game. The same game that Ling Yao set our assist record with 12.
Aaron Whitten and Gregg Davidson were pillars of our early seasons in the league and helped set our team first culture. This was one of our favourite highlights of Aaron as he found Gregg in his comfort zone in the midrange with a sneaky behind the back dime.
Ling Yao was with us two seasons, a 6'6 combo guard who was as good of a perimeter defender as the league has seen, and could facilitate or score.
Ling averaged 9.6 ppg, 4.7 apg and 1.05 spg.
He holds 2 single game school record, 12 Assists and 5 steals both vs Clemson.
