I like both, but personally I prefer the stylization of it being hollow. It has a sort of odd, ugly charm to it that I like, it has some personality and it makes sense to it's character imo. Also because I can take advantage of it.

i feel like the first one makes more sense if you consider the actual intended structure of sonic's eyes. he doesnt have one big ass eye, he has two that are really squished together like a cartoon (cuz he Is One). the intersection in the middle would be the bridge of his nose
