The AI Scientist: Towards Fully Automated AI Research, Now Published in Nature!!✨ Today in Nature we share a comprehensive technical summary of our work on The AI Scientist, including new scaling law results showing how it improves with more compute and more intelligent foundation models. The AI Scientist autonomously creates its own research ideas, codes up and conducts experiments to test those ideas, creates figures to visualize the results, writes an entire scientific manuscript summarizing what it has discovered, and conducts its own “peer” review of the resulting paper. Skyfall is a new mission concept by NASA and AeroVironment that proposes deploying six small helicopters on Mars instead of a single large rover. Using a mid-air Skyfall Maneuver, each helicopter would explore independently, capturing images, scanning below the surface, and searching for resources like water ice. The mission aims to enable faster, wider exploration, with a potential launch in 2028, while helping identify possible human landing sites on Mars.

ClearSpace has developed a spacecraft designed to clean Earth’s orbit by capturing and removing defunct satellites using robotic arms. Working with the European Space Agency and the UK Space Agency, it plans to safely deorbit old satellites so they burn up in the atmosphere. This mission aims to reduce dangerous space debris and make space operations safer for active satellites.
